For this specific example, it might be enough to just use something like Turtle from Gabriel Gonzales: http://hackage.haskell.org/package/turtle which -to me- signals that problem doesn't necessarily have to stretch so far as to implement a whole OS. Maybe just fixing smaller pieces here and there would provide much higher bang for the buck. -- "That gum you like is going to come back in style."
