I'll just note that LLVM is only platform independent to a degree. Or rather, I believe the situation is that it *is* architecture independent, but it doesn't abstract anything else besides the architecture
In particular, imagine how you might serialise a Haskell function which is an FFI binding to some external platform-specific library (e.g. Posix, Win32, Gtk+, WPF), such that you could save it on a Windows machine, copy to Linux or Mac, and start it running again. Regards, Malcolm
