Any of the haskellers here from NZ? Are you using haskell in production, internally within your company or just outside of work in your own time? In Aus they've got hackathonshttp://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/AusHac2010and user groups http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/User_groups#Australia. Anything even remotely similar here in New Zealand? Thanks Tim Matthews

We actually had two Kiwis (Stephen Blackheath and Hamish Mackenzie) come along to AusHac; the two of them were talking about having their own two-man NZ Hackathon when they got back... ;-) -- Ivan Lazar Miljenovic Ivan.Miljenovic@gmail.com IvanMiljenovic.wordpress.com

I am in Wellington, Stephen is near Palmerston North. There are a few others elsewhere I think.

I work on Leksah in my spare time.

The last couple of times I have visited my parents in (who live in Palmerston North), Stephen and I have got together for what we jokingly refer to as NZHac or the NZHUG. Our next trip to Palmy will be late August I think. There is an Erlang users group here in Wellington (organised by Lenz) and I attend when I can, there has not been a meeting in some time. It's really more of a FP group in a way as others that attending are not all Erlang users (but most use or would like to use a functional language of some sort). I think if we changed the name to the Wellington FP Users Group or something we might get more interest (especially if we catered to people interested in learning Scala and F#). Hamish

I'm currently moving from the UK back to Wellington (well, Paraparaumu, but looking for work in Wgtn), so maybe will try to get in touch when we're there. Won't actually be there until September. There is this page, which has not been promoted in a while, I think: http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Haskell_user_locations (Frappr seems to be dead, now.) Alistair

So am I like the only haskeller in NZ that doesn't live in wellington? I'm stuck down here in Christchurch and traveling to wellington is not something I think I can do very often.

There must be a few more. Didn't Computer Science at Canterbury include haskell as one of the two main first year languages, at least up until the mid 90s?
