for stack-2.5.0.1, this worked: cabal install --constraint 'base16-bytestring==0.1.1.7' --constraint 'optparse-applicative==0.15.1.0' https://github.com/commercialhaskell/stack/issues/5298#issuecomment-70233871... NB : seems to me there's a whole recent-social-history-of-haskell essay waiting to be written around that question (build 'stack' with 'cabal'). - J.W.
