So which one of you wonderful people volunteered to give a talk on Haskell at the coming LugRadio Live? I'm afraid I didn't catch the name, though it might have been a Magnus something? It might be enough to make me go if I knew there would be some funky Haskelling going on. Cheers, D. -- Dougal Stanton

I heard it as Magnus too, a Swedish name. Sounds interesting indeed, LugRadio Live 2007, 7th-8th July 2007, The Lighthouse, Fryer Street, Wolverhampton, UK. Cheers, Lennart Kolmodin

Ah, damn it, I knew I shouldn't have put that in my mail to them. I just couldn't let them get away with complaining so much about Haskell though. I've only come half-way through the podcast so I didn't even know they read the mail. I've been known to fake my way through things before so I guess that having written my first piece of Haskell just a few weeks ago won't hold me back too much... /M -- Magnus Therning (OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) magnus@therning.org Jabber: magnus.therning@gmail.com http://therning.org/magnus

Quoth Magnus Therning, nevermore,

I'm glad you did. I was getting a bit annoyed as well. One of the presenters also stresses his "hate" of Haskell on the forums, which I find alarming. Hate is quite a strong word!

Maybe a good opportunity to put together a Haskell Promotion Pack! ;-) -- Dougal Stanton

Remember folks, pipe your complaints to show@lugradio.org. I think what we need here is a full vitriolic response from the Haskell community. Perhaps someone should point out that if Haskell has no users, then LugRadio has no listeners, at least judging by the size of the respective IRC channels :-) Cheers, Simon

So which date was this infamous show where they talked trash about Haskell, anyway? I want to hear this firsthand, but the tables of contents given on their web sites don't seem to list "talking trash about Haskell" as an item :-) Cheers, Kirsten -- Kirsten Chevalier* chevalier@alum.wellesley.edu *Often in error, never in doubt "Like the rest of the human race, you are one of a kind."--Ani DiFranco

I'm pretty sure it was within the last three episodes. I just started a new job a bit less than a month ago, and I'm sure I heard the dissing on my commute (so I forgot to write an angry letter by the time I got home). The most recent one includes the letter from Magnus. I think the one before that had a letter about Haskell too, but I'm not sure. Try the last three? Cheers, D. -- Dougal Stanton

For anyone else who might be wondering (and who, like me, can't resist a trainwreck), I answered my own question: http://www.lugradio.org/episodes/68 (January 2, 2007), about 0:10:00 into the podcast. -- Kirsten Chevalier* chevalier@alum.wellesley.edu *Often in error, never in doubt "The blues isn't about feeling better, it's about making other people feel worse, and making a few bucks while you're at it." -- Bleeding Gums Murphy

I'm assuming the hate comes from not fear and not understanding. :-)

Yes! Since I put myself in this predicament I was thinking of possible topics for a LugRadio Live presentation. I'm not saying I'd be particularly suited for presenting any Haskell-related topic, but as I said I can probably fake my way through it :-) Not having been to any LugRadio Live ever makes it a little difficult to judge the level of the talks from previous years. It doesn't help that I can't find any archive of presentations/slides/papers on lugradio.org. Anyone who can offer any advice? /M -- Magnus Therning (OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) magnus@therning.org Jabber: magnus.therning@gmail.com http://therning.org/magnus
