I usually try to tone down all bright colors on the desktop, and hence the default window background color on my machines are not white but some shade of light gray. The issue is then that text portions seem to always have a white background while the rest of the WinHugs window conforms to the global color setting. I attach a window-shot for illustration. I suggest that it would be much nicer if the global background color setting was honored by the written text portion as well. --- Good point! The issue is to do with escape character, you can programatically change the background color of the text by outputting some magic, and this means that by default the background gets "forced" to white, rather than getting its default setting. I think the solution is to interpret white = the users background colour, black = the users foreground colour, and honour all other colours. Then I check my own implementation against the normal Int implementation in Hugs. Thereby I wonder about inequality of Ints which are definitely equal. Problems getting X11 to work

Hello I have downloaded and tried to build the September 2006 version of Hugs on my Intel Mac, Mac OS X 10.4. The build completes and I can run Hugs just fine, but I can't get X11 to work. Here is a small part of the make log: Reading parameters from /Users/Emil/Desktop/Downloads/hugs98-plus-Sep2006/packages/X11/X11.buildinfo Preprocessing library X11-1.2... ../../libraries/tools/hsc2hs -D__HUGS__ -Iinclude --lflag=-lX11 -o Graphics/X11/Types.hs Graphics/X11/Types.hsc /usr/bin/ld: can't locate file for: -lX11 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status linking Graphics/X11/Types_hsc_make.o failed command was: /usr/bin/gcc -lX11 Graphics/X11/Types_hsc_make.o -o Graphics/X11/Types_hsc_make ../../packages/Cabal/examples/hapax.hs: got error code while preprocessing: Graphics.X11.Types Skipping X11 package So apparently it can't locate file for -lX11. This is wierd as I have installed both XCode 2.4 and X11. On my harddisk there is a directory /usr/X11R6 with lots of stuff in it. I suspect that there is some kind of argument that can be supplied to the comfigure or make commands, but I can't guess it. Perhaps some of you know the answer. #40: type/constructor namespace bug -----------------------------------------+---------------------------------- Reporter: duncan.coutts(a)worc.ox.ac.uk | Owner: nobody Type: defect | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Component: hugs | Version: 200609 Keywords: | -----------------------------------------+---------------------------------- I tried to compile the Gtk2Hs code generator with hugs (September 2006) and it complained about this bit of code: {{{ extractAPI :: Xml.Document -> API extractAPI (Xml.Document _ _ (Xml.Elem "api" [] namespaces) _) = }}} The message is: {{{ ERROR "./Api.hs":156 - Illegal type "Document -> API" in constructor application }}} Commenting out the type signature suppressed the error. The problem seems to be a mixup in what namespace {{{Xml.Document}}} is being looked up in. There is both a type {{{Xml.Document}}} and a constructor {{{Xml.Document}}}. The type name seems to be masking the constructor name. It may also be because it's a qualified import. I don't know, I've looked into that any further.
