Hi, my name is Tomas Falemo and I'm a student at Chalmers
University.
I'm currently working on a Haskell project for a course in advanced
fuinctional programming and I intend to build my project using Fran as
a vital cornerstone. But now I seem to have run in to serious problem,
namely I can't find Fran anywhere...
All references I have found seems to end up at
http://research.microsoft.com/~conal/fran/
which only yields a file-not-found exception. I've been told this
is due to Conal Elliott leaving Microsoft, but that does not help me much.
Now to my question, is there anyone out there who knows where I can find
a copy of Fran?
Best Regards,
Tomas Falemo
A new release of Hugs98 is just around the corner, introducing
a number of worthwhile extensions and enhancements (see
announcement blurb at the end of this message.)
To help us flush out any remaining issues/bugs, a release candidate
is now available for test use. The dev. team is very keen on
having Hugs users try out this new release, and report back any
issues they may into to hugs-bugs(a)haskell.org
The release candidate is available in source form (and for the
benefit of Win32 users, a binary distribution) from
http://cvs.haskell.org/Hugs/downloads/Oct2002/

We are pleased to announce a new release of Hugs98, an interpreter
and programming environment for developing Haskell programs.
Sources and binaries are freely available on the World-Wide Web.
Feature highlights of this new release are:
- Much improved FFI support (contributed by Alastair Reid), bringing
Hugs really very close to the Haskell FFI specification.
- Adoption of a significant subset of GHC's hierarchical libraries
(hard work contributed by Ross Paterson.)
- An (allegedly) complete implementation of the Haskell98 module
system.
- Numerous bug fixes since the previous major release in Dec 2001.
The home page for Hugs is at http://haskell.org/hugs.
Send email to hugs-users-request(a)haskell.org to join the hugs-users
mailing list. Bug reports should be sent to hugs-bugs(a)haskell.org.

O.k., I am really sorry for this because I am sure it has been asked
before, I just can't find the answer. I installed HUGS on my iBook with
OS10.1 and get a "dyld: hugs can't open library:
/usr/lib/libncurses.5.dylib" error. I don't have libncurses.5.dylib on
my system. I compiled ncurses but didn't get a dynamic lib so now
what? Any help sure would be great.
Thanks a bunch.
Brian

3. THREE DAY PRAYER & FAST
--------------------------------------------------
As mentioned in the editorial, the prayer and fast will be happening on 23rd, 24th & 25th October. The calendar has listed three prayer intentions, this has now been updated. The following are the intentions for the fast:
- That which has been stolen to be returned.
- That we will love one another.
- Conversion of our youth.
- Protection for community.
- Personal intentions.
--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
4. PRINCE AND SON
--------------------------------------------------
The following article was handed in:
In early England, there was a little girl crying on the side of the road. Two men stopped and asked her what was wrong. The little girl told them of the terrible trouble and sickness her family were in. One of the men answered joking; Why dont you go and tell the Queen? she was Queen Victoria. The castle was not far from where she was, so she went off to see the Queen. She never got past the guards at the Palace gate, so she just sat down and cried. A little while later a young man was walking by and saw the upset little girl, went over to her and asked if he could help. She told him about her family, and how she wanted to see the Queen, but the guard would not let her in. The young man took her by the hand, and took her past the guard into the palace to the Queen. The young man was the Prince. We today can go to our King with our pain and troubles. His Son Jesus would only he too happy to take us to see the King.

5. FORMATION 2002
--------------------------------------------------
One of our challenges is to look to expand the vision and to do this we need to have more people helping us with the harvest ie. more people doing Formation. With the changes to Arise and Shine groups, people are now free to be more part of whatever outreach they would like to, and one of these is the Formation Program. If you would like to consider becoming a part of the Formation Team or you know someone who is interested in learning more about the Servants, please contact the Office. Thank you.

6. SINGLES LUNCH AT GATHERING
--------------------------------------------------
Just in case you didnt see this notice in the last newsletter, we are reprinting it, because we want to make sure all you older, yet still young at heart, singles of the Community, have received this invitation for a shared lunch before the General Gatherings at the center. This will be held at 12 noon 2.15pm, under the Canteen shelter if it not so sunny.

--------------------------------------------------
7. CALLING FOR HELP
--------------------------------------------------
As some of you may be aware Aruana has after 6 years decided to take a well earned break from running the childrens conference. Willis is going to co-ordinate the conference but she needs all the help she can get. In order for the conference to run smoothly we need as many people as we can to volunteer to help, in any capacity at all, even for only an hour! We especially need someone to oversee, people to supervise each of the days, (you dont have to be there all day), helpers on each of the days. If there are talented people out there who are interested in running or just helping in the workshops, artistic, crafty, (or if you have an idea for a workshop).
