Hi all, I've attached a patch that I hope will make hugs build after the base split, but it is untested as following the instructions on http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hugs/wiki/GettingTheSource gave /bin/cp ../src/platform.h include/MachDeps.h include/ghcconfig.h ../includes CPPFLAGS='-D__HUGS__ -D_HOST_OS -D_TARGET_OS' tools/make_bootlib /bin/sh: tools/make_bootlib: Permission denied make[1]: *** [bootlib/.stamp] Error 126 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/ian/code/hugs/hugs98/libraries' make: *** [all] Error 2 during the "make" step. Constraint depth cut off

Hi I get the error message: ERROR - *** The type checker has reached the cutoff limit while trying to *** determine whether: *** Typeable (Foo Expr) *** can be deduced from: *** () *** This may indicate that the problem is undecidable. However, *** you may still try to increase the cutoff limit using the -c *** option and then try again. (The current setting is -c100) I find this surprising because in the same file I have: typename_Expr = mkTyCon "Expr" instance Typeable Expr where typeOf _ = mkTyConApp typename_Expr [] typename_Foo = mkTyCon "Foo" instance Typeable1 Foo where { typeOf1 _ = mkTyConApp typename_Foo [] } instance Typeable a => Typeable (Foo a) where { typeOf = typeOfDefault } I then went even further, giving it an explicit instance with: instance Typeable (Foo Expr) where And still I get the same error message. I originally had -c40 (default), but bumping it up has no effect. Any idea what may be causing this? Thanks Neil

isPrime definition

Hi, I am a newbie in Haskell and have a trivial question. I am using Simon Thomson's textbook for learning Haskell with Hugs. I am stack with exer 5.10, which asks to define isPrime function using divisors function previously defined. I have managed to define the divisor function like this: divisors :: Int -> [Int] divisors n = [x | x<-[1..n], n `mod` x == 0] but when i am trying with isPrime function using divisors and list comprehension - i am lost because the type signature should be isPrime :: Int->Bool But any list comprehension generates a list, which is not what i want. list vs. atom

what is the best way to distinguish atoms and lists in haskell? I mean How I can find out the variable is List or atom. I know we can use :t to define type but I cannot use this. I have to do it dynamically in my program. readline library?

Hello, It seems that the hugs98-plus-Sep2006.tar.gz package from the Hugs website is missing the readline library (System.Console.Readline). Is this by design or did I do something wrong while compiling it? -Iavor

Improved readline command completion support

Hi, fyi, I wrote a patch that improves the readline command completion support of hugs. It is available at http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hugs/ticket/61 . I.e.: - added completion of function names and constructors - added completion of command names (:<cmd>) - added completion of module names (e.g. after :browse , etc.) - only do filename completion where it makes sense (e.g. after :load , etc.) - expand use of tilde (~) in filenames (previously it was completed but not recognized by hugs) - read and write the history from/to ~/.hugs_history - make hugs recognize :help Best regards Georg Sauthoff

64-bit Ints

'=' and ':' generate errors

running Hugs98 sept 2006 version, on AMD 64-bit OpenBSD 4.0, test :: Int ERROR - Undefined variable "test" size = 12+13 ERROR - Syntax error in input (unexpected `=') These lines are right out of _The Craftf of Functional Programming_, 2nd Edition, which I just received in the mail. Is Hugs98 broken on my system? Thanks, Dave Feustel

Hi all, ... probably a very stupid question ... here is the content of the arrowp-0.5 README file ---begin--- Various arrow materials: preprocessor a prototype preprocessor translating arrow notation to Haskell. examples some illustrative applications of the preprocessor and libraries. The preprocessor works with GHC. The rest can be used with either Hugs or GHC (>= 5.00). ---end--- Does this mean that the preprocessor cannot be used with Hugs? In other words: can the generated code sometimes not be interpreted by Hugs? (because of subtle language and/or library differences, maybe?) I find this a little bit strange, since GHC has 'native' support for arrows anyway (via -farrows), so why does arrowp exist if it can be used with GHC but not with Hugs?
