Building ghc-ios after a clean git clone

I thought I'd post some information about building ghc-ios from a new git clone since there are some issues. I believe these are temporary issues and will be resolved as patches go from the ios branch to master. If you do a git clone followed by a sync-all you'll wind up with a lot of the "sub" repositories being on commits that are too new for ghc-ios. For awhile I felt like I was yak shaving but I've been able to track down commits for all the repositories that are working right now. I ended up writing a script since GHC isn't using git submodules and the sync-all script doesn't seem to support a way to specify which commits are appropriate for each of the repositories. Building ghc-ios fails with older version of hoopl

I'm building ghc-ios for the first time and ran into this: compiler/cmm/BlockId.hs:18:8: Could not find module `Compiler.Hoopl.GHC' It is a member of the hidden package `hoopl-3.8.7.3'. Use -v to see a list of the files searched for. make[1]: *** [compiler/stage1/build/.depend-v.haskell] Error 1 make: *** [all] Error 2 Installing hoopl version 3.8.7.4 doesn't help. It seems someone using ghcjs also ran into the problem: https://github.com/ghcjs/ghcjs/issues/40 I'm currently building with GHC 7.4.2 from the Haskell Platform 2012.4.0.0. Few basic questions about using IPhone 3gs.

Hi all, I've just purchase IPhone 3gs. I've not used any of the Apple's products before, and I'm not in U.S. so I've not received any help from the apple store about how to work with voiceover. I've searched around the web, and have find some useful information, like this email list. My questions are the following, they are very basic questions, but please pardon me as I've just started using the product. How I can read line by line on IPhone when reading WebPages? If I've searched useful commands for voiceover, and I want to go down line by line, as you do with the help of down arrow, how can I do that on IPhone. If I want to go back to previous screen how can I do that? For example, if I've just opened settings>general and I want to go back to the screen where all the menu items under settings are available, how can I do that? Finally, can anyone recommend me a good free tutorial on starting with IPhone 3gs? Thanks everyone, Regards, Faiz.

ghci working

Haskell RTS on iOS

I'm about to start a project that will target native applications on several platforms (Linux, Mac OS X, iOS, etc.) and Haskell being my new love, I'd like to use it if possible. >From what I can tell the GHC-iOS project has a working ARM cross-compiler that integrates with Xcode for building iOS applications. I'm curious if anyone has an application running on an actual iOS device (not just the simulator) and would care to comment about the performance of the run time system. I've come across some comments in #haskell that have led me to believe that the Haskell RTS won't operate in anything less than 128MB of RAM. I suppose that's not terrible since most iOS devices have at least 512MB but I've not experienced that (xmonad seems to be very happy in 60MB total vsize). The other possible myth that I've heard is that profiling a Haskell program and improving space usage needs to be done on each platform and tuning for one platform can induce space leaks on another. This doesn't seem reasonable to me so I wanted to see if anyone has profiled/tuned on Linux/Mac OS X and run into any issues on an iOS device. help for ghc android cross compiler

Hey, I am currently trying to get a ghc cross compiler for android linux to work. I am basing this on the development version (HEAD). I succeeded building the compiler. Unfortunately, the executables produced by the compiler segfault on my android device. If I do an unregisterised build, it works! Since the iphone is also an arm platform, I was hoping someone here could help me a little bit. I investigate the problem a little bit (see this thread: http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/ghc-devs/2013-January/000013.html) and I am guessing (I am no expert) that it is an arm problem, not android. It seems like the wrong register is used for base (r0 instead of r4). * On which ghc version is the iphone fork based? * Are there any arm fixes in the iphone fork that could be related to this? This mailing list keeps getting confused iPhone newbies, might it be worth considering renaming the list to something less likely to be mistaken for a help list? Maybe just append programming onto the list name?
