The output form of --list-libraries has changed from jhc-0.7.2 to the darcs version (0.7.3 pre) which is unfortunate, since I use this option in Cabal to determine installed packages. Both formats contain enough information, but it is cumbersome to handle both of them.

applicative vs. special-functors

It seems that special-functors and applicative serves a similar purpose, namely providing Applicative, Foldable and friends for base-1.0. But they are not exactly the same, since applicative contains Control.Arrow, too. Thus I have to extend all packages that use Applicative by a Cabal switch that include applicative instead of special-functors for JHC. Hm.

Compiling JHC from Darcs-HEAD

Recently I tried to compile some programs with JHC-0.7.2 and got errors like missing include of errno.h and after fixing this I got runtime errors. I wanted to know, whether JHC from darcs repository still has these problems. I have successfully installed Darcs-2, DrIFT, texinfo/makeinfo. Now I try compiling JHC and it fails with: jhc$ make make all-am make[1]: Entering directory `/home/thielema/programming/haskell/jhc' make[1]: *** No rule for building target »src/Doc/Attr.hs« make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/thielema/programming/haskell/jhc' make: *** [all] Fehler 2 (I have translated some messages from German to English, thus they may differ from the ones you get from 'make' in other countries.)

Hi, just a note that even though I have not posted an update in a while I am still around and working hard on jhc. I lost my job a few weeks ago so things have been kind of hectic as I work out my immediate plans. On the plus side, I should have a lot more time to work on jhc in not long. (especially if I can find someone who wants to sponsor it.) :) Just thought I'd let people know what was going on. I look forward to being able to work on jhc full time for a bit. This works on debian, at least. We'd need to all the likely names for mingw gcc to get better coverage... but I suspect this already covers the big three of debian, ubuntu and fedora. Hi John, This patch adds support for popen/pclose. It's a bit hokey, and doesn't quite work right. In particular, I get an error if I try to use getErrno in openPipe. gcc complains about errno not being defined, because errno.h isn't included. For the moment, openPipe just doesn't check for errors, but that isn't a great long-term solution. So far as I can discern, this is portable code, at least to mingw, which is as far into windows as I care to venture. David P.S. including C source files?

Hi all, I was wondering what we are supposed to do to include C source files, accessed via the FFI? Including them on the command line (as I was tempted to do) just results in a complaint that they aren't haskell. Do I need to compile it separately with gcc and then pass the object file on the command line? I guess I could just experiment, but I'm feeling lazy, so I'm asking instead... This is with regard to getting jhc support to support the franchise test suite. It's a little embarassing that it fails the ffi portion. :( David
