Proposal: Remove Data.HashTable from base

Hi all, Historically, Data.HashTable has been in base because Data.Typeable used it, but that is no longer the case. I propose that we: * Mark it as deprecated in the base that comes with GHC 7.6. * Remove it from the base that comes with GHC 7.8. Rationale: * Historically there have been performance problems with it, and we have been recommending people not to use it. I'm not sure if that's still the case or not. * If it is still useful then it would fit better in the containers package. However, as there is no reason that it needs to be tied to the GHC release schedule etc, it would be even better to put it in another package. In GHC, deSugar/Coverage.lhs does use the module, but only for hashString. We could put this elsewhere in base, but I think it would be better just to copy the definition into the GHC source. Proposal: add Data.Data instances for Foreign.C.Types

I recently was wanting to use SYB for an AST datatype which includes constants like CDouble/CFloat. Currently Data.Data exports Int8...Int64 and Word instances, but no instances for Foreign.C.Types: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/latest/html/libraries/base/Data-Data.html Is there any reason these instances should not be exported by Data.Data? The proposal here is simply to add them. It's just a matter of copy-pasting the existing instances and I can provide the patch. -Ryan

Hi, getProgName is only useful in case you want to print the program name to the screen. You cannot actually use it to do anything interesting programmatically (like execv:ing the program.) I suggest we add getFullProgName which does the sensible thing of returning argv[0]. This is completing the merger of the "dbus-core" and "dbus-client" packages. The new package does everything they can do, but better. Too many people expressed frustration at trying to contribute, so I just converted it all to standard flat .hs files. * Better support for custom socket transports and authentication mechanisms. * Added support for listening for socket connections. This allows users to implement both sides of a peer-peer session. * Various improvements to performance, including moving from "binary" to "cereal". * Various minor improvements to correctness.

Patch: add ByteString.Unsafe.unsafePackMallocCStringLen

Hello. There's a minor lapse in Data.ByteString.Unsafe: unsafePackMallocCString, unlike the other unsafePack* -functions, doesn't have a variant with an explicit length. This is useful when interfacing with C libraries that return a blob of binary data that the caller must free. Attached is a darcs patch that adds it. Lauri

I'm not sure if this is a recent regression but I just installed the Haskell Platfom 2012.2. The email for the maintainer dons(a)galois.com (Don Stewart) no longer seems to be valid. Dominic.
