Then I started ./configure --> see the file nhc98_configure where I redirected the output (standard and standard error). Then I started make --> see the file nhc98_make where I redirected the output (standard and standard error). More than 100000 lines!!

I see that your machine is an x86_64. At present unfortunately, nhc98 only works on 32-bit machines, not 64-bit. Regards, Malcolm
