extensible layouts?

Hi all, I was wondering if there were any plans to add support for extensible layouts to xmonad? I haven't really gotten any comments on my patch to do so, and have no idea if the approach I sketched out is considered unacceptable, foolish, or what not. Or perhaps there's just no real interest in extensible layouts by the other developers? I'd rather not bother resolving the conflicts I've got with the recent burst of modifications if there's not much interest in the patch, particularly as my wrist has decided I shouldn't be using my computer very much--and I need to use one for work. -- David Roundy http://www.darcs.net

Just to keep everyone informed about what is happening: * currently Spencer's working on the floating layer, some patches are landing, and we've discussed how to finish this. I'll probably start reviewing his patches by the weekend. * once the floating layer is stabilised, we'll turn to configurable layout. -- Don

[patch] size hints

This patch makes xmonad obey (some) size hints set by clients, for example the aspect ratio hint set by mplayer. I also implemented the max size and size increment hints, as some clients seem to get confused if their window is "too large" (for example Xephyr). Problems with this patch: - The hints are retrieved every wm operation, which could hurt over a slow link. They should be cached (and xmonad should listen to property events) - The code is not integrated in the layout algorithm, which results in ugly gaps between windows. - Too many lines of code.
