As far as I can tell, wmii and dwm take no special action (and in fact, recommend not using 'exec', and explicitly waiting on sibling processes). This is currently also what we recommend in xmonad. If however, we can establish some convention on what we're supposed to do in this, we could try to implement a waiting mechanism. This is a proposal for theme support in tabbed browsing. Now, since tabsize is casted to Position and Dimension it is Integral a => a. And so it is in the TabTheme data type. As a consequence at compilation time it is defaulted with a warning (Warning: Defaulting the following constraint(s) to type `Integer'). What do you think I should do? Issue 23: Processes from .xinitrc stay around forever http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=23 New issue report by jaapweel: Typically, xmonad is execed by a script that may have forked off a number of processes before the exec() happened. For instance, I have a .xinitrc that looks like this: ... artsd & gnome-volume-manager & exec /home/weel/opt/bin/xmonad When one of the processes started in the background from .xinitrc exits, it will stay around as a "defunct" process until xmonad quits, because xmonad apparently doesn't wait() on processes that it doesn't even know about. I'm not entirely sure whether this is typical behavior for a window manager, nor whether it should be considered a bug.
