The fullscreen Flash video opens in a new tile but when focus is moved to any other tile, the fullscreen tile disappears. Sticky windows, switch stacks and so on

Hello! I'm using xmonad some time (and have started to learn haskell to be able to configure it) and so i have some questions like "is this possible?". 1. Is it possible to have several windows to be placed on top everytime, disregarding on layout or workspace currently selected? Theese windows should not take focus (this mainly needed for me to show some information windows like trayer and so on on edges of screen). I know something about "avoid struts" and it seems to be not what I need, as it reduces workspace zone. I'm for now want only trayer window at top right corner. 2. Is it possible to have something like stack of window (or workspace) switching? I mean, for example: I want to switch to "web" workspace to search some documentation and then switch back to "3" workspace to continue work, but for this i need to remember where i was all the time while i searching doc. Can there be something like "go back" function? 3. Is it possible to have hidden window present on all workspaces in floating layer? And with ability to toggle it visiblity status. (This will be useful for accessing audio player, for example, of course, if item 2 is possible, then it can superseed item 3 (: ) 4. Is it possible to make sticked layout for some workspace? The reason i'm asking - i have "chats" workspace, where windows should be arranged some convinient way. But this arrangement makes sense only for this workspace, so i don't want to have this workspace in layout toggling cycle and don't want to be able change layout on "chats" workspace to make sure i will not break it accidentaly. If something is possible, and where i should search for it? Hi, How can I configure xmonad so that all windows are born tiled (like after mod-t)? I think I was able to figure out I should use manageHook, but I wasn't able to figure out how. Thanks, Maurício

darcs patch: SshShell prompt

Hello all, attached is a new module, XMonad.Prompt.SshShell, which allows you to launch X apps directly from xmonad (via passwordless ssh). There are two prompts defined in this module: sshShellPrompt -- given a login (user@host), prompts for a program and arguments to run remotely sshSelectLoginPrompt -- prompts for a login, then creates an sshShellPrompt for that login This is adapted from XMonad.Prompt.Shell (as you might have guessed), by simply tweaking each function to use ssh where necessary. Completion works (both command and filename), with one caveat: for each completion (i.e., each keypress), a new ssh session is spawned. So it's pretty laggy (not too bad over lan, haven't tried yet for long latency connections). Should be able to improve upon that by using spawnPipe, which I'll be working towards. Another note: I've copied two functions from XMonad.Prompt.Shell verbatim: escape, and isSpecialChar. They aren't exported, and I didn't want to mess with Shell prompt in this patch. I'll clean that up too later, if this patch is accepted. -matt

xmobar, dual-head, and avoidStruts

I finally got around to tweaking my xmonad.hs and had to start using avoidStruts but, it doesn't work with xmobar with a Static position. Works fine with the other positions: Top, Bottom, etc, but with Static, xmonad seems to not know it exists. I like a status bar across the top of both screens. I had been using a Static xmobar with the width set appropriately. But now, that doesn't work. :( I could split my status bar information across two instances of xmobar, no big deal, but to get the second instance to display on the second screen, it seems I have to set its position to Static and then it gets ignored again. So, I'm looking for one of these solutions: 1. a way to get xmonad to recognize a Static position xmobar 2. a way to get a second xmobar instance to show on a different screen without using Static or 3. give up and set up some manual gaps (which I guess is still feasible from looking at Byorgey's config). and hints?
