Issue 179 in xmonad: Tabbed Layout does not scale for >50 windows

Issue 179: Tabbed Layout does not scale for >50 windows http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=179 Comment #2 by Braden.Shepherdson: sjanssen and I looked into this last week. Laying out the tabs appears to be O(n^2), so opening n windows becomes O(n^3). Further, the text size calculations are O(w^2) (w the longest name) and do expensive font-metric calculations. sjanssen and I agree that those runtimes should be possible as O(n) and O(w), and using a fixed-width font should remove the many font-metrics calls too. Unfortunately, these changes are in the "rewrite" category, not the "tweak" one. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Issue 179: Tabbed Layout does not scale for >50 windows http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=179 Comment #1 by dons00: I've reproduced the lack of profiling info -- I think its to do with the funky mixed executable/libraries. (It used to work with single, static xmonad). Issue 145 in xmonad: Misplaced menus in openoffice with gtk widgets

Issue 145: Misplaced menus in openoffice with gtk widgets http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=145 Comment #6 by thibm.tux: I had the same problem with fluxbox. If I comment the following lines : if [ -z $SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN ]; then export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk fi from the beginning of "soffice" script, menus go back to the right place. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Issue 178 in xmonad: UpdatePointer behavior not usable with Tabbed layout

Issue 178: UpdatePointer behavior not usable with Tabbed layout http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=178 Comment #5 by Klaus.Weidner: Could you try the two patches for issue #180 (http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=180) instead? Those may fix your problem also. That approach avoids the race condition introduced by looking at the current mouse state in the extension. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Issue 180: In focus-follows-mouse mode, the wrong window gets focused http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=180 Comment #2 by Klaus.Weidner: Here's the related change to the UpdatePointer contrib module so that it doesn't move the pointer when the user is doing so. Issue 180: In focus-follows-mouse mode, the wrong window gets focused http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=180 Comment #1 by Klaus.Weidner: This patch adds a flag argument to the "windows" function which is true when called from "focus". This correctly handles window reshuffling (for example added/deleted windows due to program actions) without needing to keep track of the mouse focus state. To avoid adding a "False" extra argument to all other occurences of "windows" (which are a lot), I've used a wrapper function to abstract that out and provide a "windows" function which works like the original one. For the xmonad core, it wouldn't be necessary to keep the state flag, but it's still needed for UpdatePointer which otherwise gets confused and starts focusing the wrong windows when the pointer is rapidly moved across many windows. Instead of the single-purpose "mouseFocused" flag, should xmonad store the last event it handled in its global state so that extensions can peek at it? Issue 180: In focus-follows-mouse mode, the wrong window gets focused http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=180 New issue report by Klaus.Weidner: What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Have at least 3 windows on the screen at the same time 2. Move the mouse pointer from the first window through the second one to the third one very quickly 3. Check which window has focus What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I expect the third window to have the focus, but depending on how fast the mouse was moving, the focus may be stuck in one of the intervening windows. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad current darcs version, on Linux Please provide any additional information below. The "windows" function in XMonad/Operations.hs calls clearEvents with enterWindowMask to delete pending events. This is appropriate if the windows get reshuffled, but it leads to the unexpected behavior described above if xmonad lags behind the current events and clears the pending enterWindow events. Issue 178: UpdatePointer behavior not usable with Tabbed layout http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=178 Comment #4 by laylward: That second patch applied cleanly for me as well, thanks! It seems to fix the vast majority of cases, though if I very quickly release the mouse when clicking a new tab the mouse position is still updated. Is a fix to that problem possible without changes to xmonad core? -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Issue 178: UpdatePointer behavior not usable with Tabbed layout http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=178 Comment #3 by robr...@bobturf.org: I'm not sure what the problem is. I've sent a copy of the original patch to the mailing list in case it was a google problem but just tested it myself and found I got the same symptoms. I'm attaching a newly generated patch which seems to be working for me now. Maybe you'll have better luck with it too.
