The reason appears to be that the queryPointer function returnes the previously selected window, not the current. sjanssen suggested to re-implement this modules as a layout modifier, so it can query the state of windows and figure out itself above what window the mouse hovers. Patch: Floating layout like SimpleFloat, but without the decorations

Hi, Here's a modified SimpleFloat without the decorations that kept bugging me. I also dropped the mouse resize support since moving the windows has to be done through mouse bindings that by default push the window to the floating mode which doesn't support the mouse resize anyway. Maybe a different set of bindings that don't set the window to the floating mode when the workspace is in one of the floating layouts might be a better option. Hi all! While writing an article about xmonad, I've noticed that writing and explaining 'doF . W.shift' in manage hooks code is a bit obscure and cryptic for xmonad novices. So I've added doShift function, which has more user-friendly name and makes possible to avoid 'doF' function, which name might seem strange. -- WBR, Ivan N. Veselov aka sphynx.
