Firefox problems

Hy, I got two problems using firefox and xmonad. I know (because ion3 has the same problems) that this is not a xmonad-issue but a firefox. Nevertheless perhaps somebody got a solution: 1. If you launch firefox in a big frame (perhaps fullscreen) and either move it to a smaller frame (change layout from tabbed to tall for example) or resize the whole screen (because of resolution-changes when switching from notebook-screen to external lcd) the popup-menus (as well as the menus in the status-bar like adblock, noscript, firebug) open in the wrong direction, because firefox didnt regognize the size-change. This leads into a big problem if you resized your screen from a bigger resolution to a smaller one: You cant use the popup-menus at all, they open out of the screen. In the oposite direction, when changing the resolution from small to big and you try to open a popup-menu it sometimes doesnt display at all. 2. Many Firefox-Windows should float above the firefox window and not get repositioned by xmonad (the about-dialog, the downloads, the prefrences). I tried to search the firefox bugtracker but as "firefox and resize" leads into thousand of javascript-issues i havent found anything until now. problem with neverwinter nights

Hello, I have a new problem. Neverwinter nights seem to have a problem with nwn. I use doFloat with it, and it starts correctly. Mplayer issue (not the one in the faq)

Hello, Screenshot: http://jesgue.homelinux.org/other-files/xmonad-vs-mplayer.jpg mplayer doesn't obey the default layout (I am not floating it in my xmonad.hs). It starts on a normal size (not fullscreen), then I focus the window and press 'f' to put it fullscreen. The problem is that the mplayer window traverses the screen borders, as you can see. A small portion of it appears over the firefox window which is entirely into the other monitor. I know I could use another player. But I was wondering if this is a known issue and if there's a workaround or something. The only bit about mplayer in my config is: , className =? "MPlayer" --> doF (W.shift "mplayer") To spawn it in a given workspace. As I said, no doFloat nor any equivalent thing is present. I have tried -just in case- the solution I found for neverwinter in my other thread, but those issues are clearly unrelated, so it didn't works, as I hoped it wouldn't. Is this layout (with Tall) allowed?

This is my configuration file. Are parameters to Tall acceptable, as well as the double use of a single layout? (It builds and is usable, but sometimes things go wrong, like xmonad saying the focus is on firefox but everything I type going to emacs. Before trying to understand why, I would like to know if this configuration is supposed to work.) I'm using xmonad as it comes in latest Ubuntu. xkb, xmonad and mouse accessibility

Hi, I like to use the keyboard to control the mouse, using a feature I was told belongs to a module of X ('xkb', I think). I press Alt-Shift-NumLock and then the keypad controls the mouse. After some time using that inside xmonad, it stops working, and I have to activate it again. Do you think that can be caused by xmonad? Or I should search only for X information? Thanks, Maurício

starting workspace for each screen

Hello again, Does anyone know if there's any way to set the starting workspace for each monitor? Maybe a way to fake some keystrokes would work as well if there's no easy way to do this in xmonad. For example, what I want to do, following the default xmonad config, would be the equivalent of: alt+e (select second monitor) alt+8 (pick workspace 8) alt+w (select first monitor again) I use workspaces 1-7 for real work, and 8 is just for mplayer, so I want to put the 8th workspace on the second monitor and give back the input focus to the first monitor. Hello, and firefox

Hello everyone, I am a newcomer, and I have been playing for some time with xmonad. I've been (well, and I still am) an fvwm user for quite a long time. But xmonad seems to have an excellent support for xinerama. That alone is enough to pick my attention, since no other wm that I know of has a proper support for xinerama, even if lots of them claim to. I have a mostly working setup now, though there's a lot of room for improvements, and being new to haskell is not helping (the time will cure that, though). What I am after right now is for ideas about how to handle multiple instances of firefox. My idea is to launch a firefox instance on startup on a given workspace. But, I don't want all the firefox instances to be open on that workspace (for example, if I click an url on sylpheed I want it to be opened on a firefox window on the same workspace I am right at that moment). My current approach, right now, is to launch everything from my .xinitrc, and then I have manageHook on my xmonad.hs file to W.shift the firefox window to workspace 2. The problem is that, this method, effectively shifts ALL the firefox windows to that workspace, which means that if I click an url on sylpheed on workspace 3, then I have to go to workspace 2 to be able to see the firefox window containing the page associated to the url I just clicked on sylpheed. I don't know if the manageHook approach is correct. Maybe there's a way to send the firefox instance I open at startup to workspace 2 without a hook. I use something similar to manage some urxvt's I have for different purposes, but the hooks approach there works just ok because terminals usually have a way to change it's resource/class name, which makes matching windows much easier. Firefox doesn't have this capability as far as I know, that's why if I match firefox, it matches all the firefox windows, which is not the intended effects. I can't believe I am the first one to have such a problem, but I haven't found anything though I have looked on many places (including the mailing list archives). For now, I just work around it using another browser as the associated browser on syplheed and urxvt and floating the links windows. Ideas and guidance is welcome. Thanks everyone for reading.
