Note that the difficulties with stringToKeysym are already noted in the module's documentation. What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Add a binding for > , ( "M-S-b", pasteString "http://code.google.com" ) What is the expected output? What do you see instead? It pastes httpcodegooglecom I've pushed a patch that changes the paste to "http;//code.google.com", which is still wrong with the ';' vs ':'. Disable focus following mouse 1. Switch to another workspace 2. Shuffle mouse around 3. Enjoy seeing it focusing windows while not updating the frames' colors 4. After switching the focus using keyboard or mouse click everything become ok What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? 0.9.1 on gentoo linux Are you using an xmonad.hs? We should go through all of xmonad and make sure all code follows these guidelines: * All String ([Char]) values should be lists of Unicode code points, and should NOT be in UTF-8 or any other encoded form. * All input that creates String values should decoded from bytes in whatever encoding to a lists of code points (this means System.IO and proper locale settings in GHC 6.12, System.IO.UTF8 in older) * All output that takes String values should encode the code points to bytes in whatever encoding (again System.IO in 6.12, utf8-string otherwise) * All non-string data (lists of bytes, encoded strings, etc.) should be stored at types other than [Char] If anybody wants to spearhead this, feel free to come forward. But there are various operations other than switching away from a workspace which will also place it at the head of this list. There is nothing special about scratchpads here; if you shift any window on the current workspace to another workspace, that other workspace will now be the "previous workspace" as far as toggleWS is concerned. The real problem is that the order of workspaces in xmonad's list of hidden workspaces is not really supposed to mean anything, so toggleWS is depending on undefined behavior. The only way to really fix this would be to have CycleWS track the workspace history itself. Here's a sketch of a possible solution: CycleWS could use the new extensible state to track the workspace history, and provide something to put in the logHook that would notify CycleWS every time the current workspace changes.
