xmonad on solaris, input issue

Hello all! I've succeeded in building xmonad 0.9.1 on a sparc box with Solaris 10 and GHC 6.10.4 (bootstrapped with the 6.8.3 binary sparc package). The only issue is, that it doesn't recognize it's metakey. So I can't open a terminal or quit it with Meta+Shift+Q. It has definitely something to do with the build process as remotely starting xmonad on a linux box does work flawless (remotely as in "ssh -X" to it). Has anyone suggestions were I should start to check for errors? best regards, Stephan

What do you see instead? I'd expect it to close the prompt, or ignore the ctrl-c. Instead, xmonad hangs. Nothing further can be entered into the shellPrompt, and as it's model, other windows cannot be focused. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.9 with contrib 0.9 on Debian unstable. Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". xmonad.hs attached Please provide any additional information below. Recommended setup for coding

I would like to try some haskell coding with xmonad. What is the best xmonad install for this purpose? Is it essential to use the cabal version? What is your opinion about the "Haskell Platform" instead of ghc --> http://sporkcode.wordpress.com/2009/07/11/installing-the-haskell-platform-i… So far i am using ghc/xmonad-0.9.1 from debian sid, installed on ubuntu 9.10. If possible i would like to keep this unchanged, because everything works fine. Ralph

withIM combination

Hi all, few months ago i give xmonad a chance and I really like it a lot... There's only one problem: i'm an ultra-rookie to xmonad and to haskell, so i beg for knowledge :-P I try to setup a layout suitable for chatting and looking around I found: * XMonad.Layout.IM * XMonad.Layout.LayoutCombinators what I'm trying to do is to set up a layout that split my screen horizontally in two sections and LayoutCombinators seems to be the one; each section is handled with IM layout. I've forgotten to mention that in the upper section i run pidgin and in the lower skype, so in each section i want the buddies list on the left and each opened chat to be "tabbed" on the right. Basically i have this: tabbedLayout = (tabbed shrinkText tabbedTheme) commLayout = avoidStruts $ (withIM (0.20) pidginRoster tabbedLayout) *//* (withIM (0.20) skypeRoster tabbedLayout) pidginRoster = (ClassName "Pidgin") `And` (Role "buddy_list") skypeRoster = (ClassName "Skype") `And` (Not (Title "Options")) `And` (Not (Role "Chats")) `And` (Not (Role "CallWindowForm")) ok, it runs but with an essential issue: every chat window is tabbed in the upper section, while i want the pidgin chats above and skype chats below. (sub)layout set up

Hi all, I want to set up a layout that treats two matched windows as one, like always side-by-side. I also want to be able to switch the "master" layout, like: Tall .. ||| Mirror Tall .. ||| simpleTabbed and keep this pair of windows always together side-by-side in this layouts. Of course I will have other windows involved in this layouts and that's the point. I've tried sublayout but I found it to hard to set. Also tried ComboP combineTwoP, which comes close to what I want but has sad limitations like "reserving" the area to the 2nd layout and not being able to switch the ruling layout. Does it make sense or I'm wanting something too odd? Thanks, Henrique G. Abreu

Hi Wirt, Many thanks for your reply. I am glad you decided to give the applet a try, at least for me it provides precious "orientation" : ) when it comes to mapping workspaces to (physical) screens. After reading your email I noticed that I was running xmonad 0.8 (the version that is currently in the Ubuntu 9.10 repositories); I just upgraded to 0.9.1 and the busy cursor is gone. : ) Now off to try out the cycleNonEmptyWS code you sent to the list -- sounds just like my kind of thing. : ) cheers ~l

CycleRecentWS with nonempty workspaces only

I would like to have cycleRecentWS of XMonad.Actions.CycleRecentWS to cycle the nonempty workspaces only. Can anybody point my the way to achieve this? (The conventional if-then stuff is a mystery in haskell;-)) Thanks in advance. Ralph

What do you see instead? I've expected to see files/directories in my home dir. Instead, whole XMonad freezes and I can only restart it (Mod-Q). What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.9.1 from package community/xmonad 0.9.1-2 plus community/xmonad-contrib 0.9.1-2 . I use Arch Linux, with kernel 2.6.32-ARCH on my EeePC 901. Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". I've attached my xmonad.hs, "xmonad --recompile" produces no output. Please provide any additional information below. However when I write: ls projects(or any file or directory from home)/ then I can see files/dirs in this directory (projects/ is one of directories in my home dir). Next minor release?

Hey! I'd like to bug again a little bit about releasing a Bluetile-compatible version of xmonad and xmonad-contrib. ;-P Is this still on the horizont? What things are planned to go into a potential next minor release and might need to be finished or polished for that? Do we want more testing of the extensible state feature before releasing a version of the core with it? Cheers! Jan
