xmobar/dzen, Esc, and mendeley

Dear All, I just noticed a strange interaction (strange at least to me) when running with xmobar (or dzen). - Mendeley desktop allows one to view a pdf "fullscreen". To exit from full screen you are supposed to press "Esc" (or Ctrl-Return, though this I do not see documented anywhere). However, bailing out of fullscreen does not work unless: a) one is using "smartBorders $ Full" AND b) if one runs dzen or xmobar, one toggless off the menu bar. It is a good thing that, regardless of the layout when one enters into mendeley, a) and b) will always work. So the fix is easy. Still, I do not understand the problem, and it seems that Mendeley is not seeing a key press it should be seeing. I have not experienced this with any other program other than Mendeley. I googled around and have not found similar patterns. (Interestingly enough, I could not get away from fullscreen mode in scrotwm; under Bluetile, predictably, it only works under the "F" layout). separate log for each Xinerama screen

Hello all, I've been experimenting with XMonad recently and I've come up with a solution to the following "problem": I have a dual-head setup and am running two status bars on the top of each screen; I would like to be able to display in each status bar the information that is relevant to the corresponding screen. In particular, when I am moving the focus around, staying on one screen, the window title shown in the status bar of that screen should be changing according to the focused window, while that shown in the status bar on the other screen should not and should show the title of the window that would have the focus if I switched to the other screen. Similarly for layouts. On the other hand, both status bars should show the same list of hidden non-empty workspaces. This way, when I'm doing something on a particular screen I don't have to turn my head to find out which workspace I am on and what is my current layout. The solution I have is sufficiently general, so that I thought it could be added to XMonad.Hooks.DynamicLog module. In that module there are functions dynamicLogWithPP, dynamicLogString, and pprWindowSet that operate on the current screen; I wrote the functions dynamicLogWithPP', dynamicLogString', and pprWindowSet' that are like their undashed counterparts but take the screen to operate on as the first argument. Switch Workspace Focus

Hi, I have key-bindings set for changing focus to a specific workspace. By default this is set to Alt-w/e/r. I would like to define a key-binding for switching workspace focus to the next workspace. Switching while on the last workspace should move focus to the first. Dual screen workspaces stay where they are

Dear Folks, Thanks for a nice windowing system. (it's really just a ruse to get me to learn Haskell!) I use two screens, and am used to the idea that on one pair of screens, I have windows open relating to one activity. I would really like desktops to stay where they are, so I see just the ones I care about at one time. Unfortunately, it seems that when I change workspaces, I drag some other things with me as I go around, and I get horribly lost. I want to see the browser only when I press Meta-3 (and Meta-4, I think) for example, and when I press other key combinations, I go to those other workspaces, where I was doing something completely different. I seem to be chasing my emacs windows around the place, and things don't seem to stay where I put them. Am I just confused, or is there a software solution to this problem? Or should I ask for a refund on that lobotomy?
