Since currentWs is independent of the given window, nextMatchWithThis History currentWs should produce the exact same effect as nextMatch History (return True), as long as there currently is a focused window. The answer probably a bit more interesting to you is: can what you want to do be done? Of course it can ;) but not out of the box it seems. What you need is a query that returns the workspace a given window is on. As far as I can tell, there is is no such query provided in ManageHelpers, and it is certainly not provided as part of GroupNavigation. Cheers, Norbert

How to make per-window keyboard layouts?

Greetings, I've been using plain XMonad for some time (not combined with KDE/GNome). Currently, I'm switching between keyboard layouts simply by a key combination globally: [ ((modMask , xK_Scroll_Lock ), spawn "setxkbmap -layout us ; xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap") , ((modMask .|. shiftMask, xK_Scroll_Lock), spawn "setxkbmap -layout cz ; xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap") ] However that's a bit inconvenient. For many windows (i.e. browser, terminal) I need to keep the US layout most of the time. I need the localized layout only for text editors in 99% of cases. And I switch windows/workspaces a lot, so I have to switch the layouts manually almost every time I switch. Ideally I'd like to achieve: - By pressing the key combination I set some kind of flag for the currently focused window. - XMonad calls the spawn "setxkbmap ..." commands automatically according to the flags when window focus changes. How to do that (if it's possible)? Thanks for help. (Bonus: Manage the flags externally by some kind of command from scripts.) Controlling where new windows are inserted

Hi, I would like to control where new windows are inserted in the layout. Specifically, I would like new windows to always be insert as the last secondary window in the layout (never the main window). Is there some way I can do that? Thank you

Start XMonad and/or xmobar 2. Check their wakeup frequency with powertop 3. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? About half year ago when I used XMonad for the first time the wakeup frequency was only 10 times per second, sometimes even less. Now it often gets to 100, especially in idle state. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? Debian wheezy. XMonad 0.10-4+b2 from debian official repo. Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". This issue is reproducible on my laptop with any configuration, including the default empty configuration. Please provide any additional information below. When there's an active X program running (like the chromium browser I'm typing in now), wakeup freq of both xmonad and xmobar are likely to drop to about 40/sec. But as keyboard and mouse become idle the freq rises up again.

If I move the mouse cursor to an empty screen, for example, that screen doesn't get focus (launched applications will show up on the previous screen). The workspace focus only changes when entering a window or with keyboard shortcuts. I use xrandr with NVIDIA's proprietary drivers.

How to apply (withWorkspace myXPConfig) to two functions?

I'm trying to write a function that asks for a workspace name, then sends the current window there and views it. Like these: carryToNext = shiftTo Next NonEmptyWS >> moveToNext carryToPrev = shiftTo Prev NonEmptyWS >> moveToPrev except with a specific workspace. I've got it almost working, but it asks for the workspace twice: carryToSpecific = withWorkspace myXPConfig (windows . W.shift) >> withWorkspace myXPConfig (windows . W.greedyView) There should be some simple way to combine the two, but I'm not sure how to go about finding it. A few things I've tried: carryToSpecific = withWorkspace myXPConfig ((windows . W.shift) >> (windows . W.greedyView)) carryToSpecific = withWorkspace myXPConfig (windows . (W.shift >> W.greedyView)) carryToSpecific = map (withWorkspace myXPConfig) [(windows . Focus and shortcuts on some applications

Dear All, I would like to raise two issues and I hope you don't mind if I address them in two separate e-mails. First, is the focus and shorcuts in some application. For instance a Java application Geogebra. When I run it I seem to have focus on it but no shortcuts work until I actually click on the window. The same happens if I change focus to another window and then come back. No shortcuts until I actually click. The same happens for Scilab. When I run it, I can immediately interact with its terminal, but when I change focus and focus on Scilab again, then I actually need to click on the window to start typing in commands. Is this a problem of Xmonad or my configuration? Is there anything that could be done. This "one-click" will not save me a vast amount of time, but would be great if there was something simple that could be done about it.
