Open a window (e.g., a terminal, although it happens to all types of windows) 2. Do a bunch of other work with other windows. (This doesn't happen if you open and close a window immediately). 3. Close the original window. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? The window should disappear and the wallpaper should be shown. Instead, an artifact image of the window remains, although the window itself has definitely closed. I can't interact with the window and if open a new window xmonad behaves as if there is no additional window (the screen isn't split between the two windows). I can even drag a small window around in tiling mode over the image of the window and "erase" the closed window (i.e., the wallpaper is redrawn in areas touched by the window). I've attached a screenshot that hopefully makes sense. Note that the problem is very rare. There doesn't seem to be a pattern for which windows have the problem. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad darcs, on Arch Linux. I am using the NVIDIA proprietary drivers with dual monitors (Twinview). I am not using compositing. The problem has occured with multiple versions of xmonad, the kernel versions, and the NVIDIA driver. Are you using an xmonad.hs? Getting xmonad working with GNOME 3.8?

Hi, I've been using xmonad in GNOME 3.2 / 3.4 / 3.6 in fallback mode just fine, but the latest upgrade to GNOME 3.8 on Arch has rendered xmonad unusable. Does anybody know how to get xmonad working on GNOME again? Thanks, William

What do you see instead? This seems to occur when moving the mouse with focus follows mouse, and switching focus from one terminal to another (I have seen it using both xfce4-terminal and the sakura terminal). Xmonad seems to grab all keyboard and mouse events, and not release them, which results in no mouse movements, clicks, or keyboard activity doing anything in either xmonad or the applications on screen. However, ctrl-alt-FN works, and if I use the console to kill all my terminals, this seems to convince xmonad to stop grabbing inputs. I also tried using the console to start xev, and confirmed that it generally saw no X events at all. I think that one time xev reported a stream of X events, as if it were getting all the traffic I had generated while trying to use my locked desktop. Also, at least twice, after a several minute delay xmonad has woken up on its own and dropped the grab. It then seemed to process all the keys I had pressed, which was disconcerting. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? 0.11 on Debian unstable with XFCE panel 4.10.1 Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". It's attached. Note that I have used xmonad for years without seeing this problem. I switched laptops, made some minor changes to my xmonad.hs and now it happens frequently enough to be a real productivity problem. On the other hand, if someone is looking to debug this somehow, I can probably reproduce it reliably enough to try whatever steps make sense to debug it. Status: New Owner: ---- New issue 552 by fistonbe...(a)gmail.com: Prompt.Workspace wrong completion http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=552 This happens with workspaces with names containing spaces and is related to the default implementation for nextCompletion and commandToComplete (class XPrompt) which shouldn't be used here. 1. type the name of a workspace which contains spaces on a workspace prompt; 2. hit tab; 3. workspaces whose name start with the last word on prompt are shown. The whole prompt should be used for completion. I made a patch long ago but didn't find a way to send it. It is attached. I don't think XMonad will ever prompt for a list of workspace names separated by spaces. avoidStruts not working on first start

Hello XMonad list! For some reason avoidStruts doesn't seem to work the first time I log in, my dzen bars are hidden. However if I reload XMonad it seems to work fine. I can only reproduce this behaviour by rebooting the machine. This configuration used to work before, but recently I've switched to an ssd, so I suspect that the problem might be related to some race condition. Did anyone had this problem before? Is there a feature...

Hi, I've used xmonad for about two and a half years as a "stock" item from the repositories but I have always wanted (or wanted to know) if there is a feature or option that lets you create a new window on top of another one but inside the current frame? Imagine the screen, then using Alt+1 to Alt+9 to switch screens, I'd like to be able to do that inside a currently active region so instead of having another window appear and cause a relayout, I'd like the new open application to sit on top, a stack I guess...I used to use the Lisp "stumpwm" window manager and the ability to flip between windows but within another frame on the screen was brilliiant. I have a suspicion that it will be a "layout" class but I have no idea what one if it exists. Thanks, Sean.

Missing windows

Hi, When experimenting with new layouts, I inadvertently deleted some workspaces, I'm not exactly sure how. All the windows that were on those workspaces have disappeared: they do not appear on any workspace. And yet xwininfo -tree -root reports that they still exist. Any ideas how to retrieve them?
