Workspace Switching Woes

Hello, I've got a fairly specific issue which I've seen for example here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/13498979/remove-border-from-fullscreen-… but I haven't found any solutions. Essentially, I'm using the compton compositor to, amongst other things, fade in and out of windows. I also use smartBorders and smartSpacing to hide the spacing and the borders on singleton windows. The problem is that If I begin from a singleton window, then when I switch workspaces, these 'smart' modifiers no longer detect the singleton window as a singleton, and so redraw the border and spacing before the window has faded. Thus, at the beginning of the fade, the singleton window jumps a few pixes as the border and spacing are applied. This may sound very particular, but it's actually fairly jarring to see, and I'm not able to use smartBorders and smartSpacing in combination with this. Has anyone perhaps solved this problem or could point in the direction of a solution? Thanks for any help, - Sacha Sokoloski

Xmobar tab completion

Hello, I have been using xmonad for a few weeks. After updating via aptitude on Debian unstable a few days ago, xmobarno longer offers tab-completions. It still works, but I have to ype out the whole command name. The colour of the bar is now black as well. I found some discussion of this on a forum. A solution was to rebuild xmonad. Not knowing Haskell, I'm not sure how to do this. Is there another solution? If not, how do I rebuild xmonad - is this even possible with the Debian package, or do I need to install from source? Switch to previous workspace layout

Hello. Few months ago I became a incredibly happy user of the tiling window manager XMonad. Though I know only the very basics of Haskell, I managed to create a desirable configuration with the help of this post<http://www.nepherte.be/step-by-step-configuration-of-xmonad>and this perfectly documented config for Ubuntu <https://github.com/davidbrewer/xmonad-ubuntu-conf>. Yet I have a question on switching workspace layouts. I'd like the Mod + Shift + Space shortcut to switch to previous workspace instead of the first (default) one. In default config I found only: -- Rotate through the available layout algorithms , ((modm, xK_space ), sendMessage NextLayout) -- Reset the layouts on the current workspace to default , ((modm .|. shiftMask, xK_space ), setLayout $ XMonad.layoutHook conf) Also looking through XMonad.Layout I could find only NextLayout and FirstLayout messages. What do you see instead? This seems to occur when moving the mouse with focus follows mouse, and switching focus from one terminal to another (I have seen it using both xfce4-terminal and the sakura terminal). Xmonad seems to grab all keyboard and mouse events, and not release them, which results in no mouse movements, clicks, or keyboard activity doing anything in either xmonad or the applications on screen. However, ctrl-alt-FN works, and if I use the console to kill all my terminals, this seems to convince xmonad to stop grabbing inputs. I also tried using the console to start xev, and confirmed that it generally saw no X events at all. I think that one time xev reported a stream of X events, as if it were getting all the traffic I had generated while trying to use my locked desktop. Also, at least twice, after a several minute delay xmonad has woken up on its own and dropped the grab. It then seemed to process all the keys I had pressed, which was disconcerting. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? 0.11 on Debian unstable with XFCE panel 4.10.1 Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". It's attached. Note that I have used xmonad for years without seeing this problem. I switched laptops, made some minor changes to my xmonad.hs and now it happens frequently enough to be a real productivity problem. On the other hand, if someone is looking to debug this somehow, I can probably reproduce it reliably enough to try whatever steps make sense to debug it. xmonad and xhb

Hi all, I have been researching the possibility of porting xmonad to xhb and I have found that it has been discussed numerous times before and that there has even been some experimentation: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.haskell.xmonad/13580 but I cannot find any real hard details of how xhb/xmonad would differ from xlib/xmonad. Compiling xmobar or taffybar into xmonad

Trouble getting taffybar running

Hi all, I've just cabal installed it, created ~/.config/taffybar/taffybar.hs (from taffybar.hs.example in the git repo) but when I run taffybar it says : Error occurred while loading configuration file When I load the config into ghci it loads without a single warning or error. I'm running it from an xterm within an already running xmonad session that doesn't have any other panel of any sort. Where do the taffybar compile error messages go? Any clues?
