Here's another idea that had been tossed around on IRC, a list of workspace "cursors". This was born from a discussion regarding Enlightenment virtual desktops, and on further inspection it turns out that simulating a cursor was the real feature. When maintaining a large list of workspaces, navigating between them is an issue. Having a list of pointers or cursors that could be accessed quickly (single keypress bound) or linearly (next/prev cursor) would be useful to "jump" between tasks. The idea would be that given an array of cursors, the current cursor is constantly updated with the current workspace. Changing to another cursor jumps to its last known location and it becomes the new current cursor. Here's a quick sketch in perlesque pseudo-code: my @cursors = [ "1", "1", "1", "1", "1", "1", "1", "1", "1", "1", ]; my $currentCursor=0; add post-workspace change hook, or attach the code to the planer keybindings used to change workspaces: $cursors[$currentCursor]=getCurrentWorkspace(); goto-next-cursor: if $currentCursor < 9 then $currentCursor++; setWorkspace($cursors[$currentCursor]); goto-prev-cursor: if $currentCursor > 1 then $currentCursor--; setWorkspace($cursors[$currentCursor]); You could get fancy and change the array boundchecking to use the length of the array, or make it a ring and just loop (nice idea). FR: runOrToggleVisibility

A useful extension to the existing runOrRaise function would be the ability to runOrToggleVisibility, to allow fast launch and swapping of background windows you don't want visible constantly (ie: pidgin, amarok, network clients, etc). Pseudo-code in xmonad.hs bound to a key: runOrToggleVisibility "pidgin" (className =? "pidgin") where: - if "pidgin" isn't running, launch it (on current workspace?) - if "pidgin" is running - if "pidgin" is hidden, reveal it (floating?) - if "pidgin" is visible, hide it A single keypress (ie: C-A-g) could be used to launch and toggle an application in this manner. Given the example of pidgin, imagine having new conversations popup normally and be tiled, but the "Buddy List" not be visible until you call it up via one key on the current workspace, and use the same key to hide it again. Cinelerra does not load

Hi, I'm trying to run Cinelerra within Xmonad but it is not working. It seems that it creates a window -a transparent tile is allocated for it- but it seems to "freeze" and nothing happens. It is working on other WMs so I can't guess what the problem is. Many thanks, JP

notify-send not showing any box when run

I am running with xmonad 0.8-1 on Ubuntu 8.10, integrating with the Gnome module My configuration is quite simple http://pastie.org/453213 - I haven't really grasped the Haskell syntax yet, so the configuration above has been "learning by example". I have one annoying problem: When running Ruby autotests, the test-program always ends its test-run with a message in the corner of my screen - this is done, using Gnome's "notify-send" command. But after switching to xmonad, I have not been able to get anything shown with "notify-send". Can anyone help me? Should I change something in my xmonad config or am I to use another command instead of "notify-send"? Kind regards, Carsten
