xterm/urxvt display problems

Hi I have a shortcut for launching ncmpcpp (mpd client). When I use it for the first time in the session, the display is fine. But when I spawn it again I get some junk display, some areas of the screen are not refreshed, staying permanently. However if I laucnh ncmpcpp from an existing *term this problem disappears. Any ideas ? My spawn command is : ((modMask, xK_F1 ), spawn "/usr/bin/urxvt -rv -name ziq -e /usr/bin/ncmpcpp") I'm not even sure it's an xmonad related problem Pascal

If I'm understanding you, the answer is 'you can safely call encodeString on ASCII text, and UTF text, but you cannot on ISO8859-1 & ASCII Extended'. So we can either default to calling encodeString, checking whether it's ISO/Extended (and not calling encodeString if True); or we can default to not calling encodeString, and enabling it if a check for UTF returns true. Error message when launching Firefox

Hi everyone. Since yesterday I've been receiving an error dialog when launching Firefox. It says "An error occured while loading or saving configuration information for firefox. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly". Clicking on a "Details" button gives me the following: "GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Failed to execute dbus-launch to autolaunch D-Bus session)" This happens only when launching firefox from a keybinding or through dmenu (also launched from a keybinding). I'm using the xmonad darcs from yesterday (19). xmonad 0.8.1 doesn't suffer from this problem nor do other WMs (openbox and awesome), so I guess it's due to something that changed between 0.8.1 and yesterday. Launching firefox in the affected version from a terminal also has no problems. The last three darcs builds I used were from 2009-01-12 (no problems), 2009-01-17 (I'm not sure if it had problems, since I usually suspend my laptop without rebooting or relaunching X for a few days) and 2009-01-19 (the problematic build). Click the button to make the video go fullscreen What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I expect it either show the video full screen, or at least open a new window which I could manage using Xmonad. Instead, it appears that a new window is created, splitting the workspace. The movie seems to show fullscreen, but half the workspace is covered by firefox. Any attempt to move firefox or the fullscreen movie seems to close the fullscreen movie. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.8 packaged for Ubuntu 8.10 (Intel 32bit). Please provide any additional information below.
