Issue 225: Ability to send synthetic mouse events to windows http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=225 New issue report by moljac024: When mouse events are binded for xmonad they get intercepted and acted upon but there is no ability to send them further down. That kind of thing would be useful if, for instance, trying to check if a button was pressed over the root window to change the workspace and if not, then just pass down the mouse event to the window under the pointer (so you can sroll in firefox). XMonad just hides the windows from the other workspaces, and only calculates their size when they are actually shown. This could be solved by always setting the sizes for all windows, even those currently hidden. I’m not sure if they would want that additional work/code for something that affects a contrib module in a cosmetic way. Enable Gnome workspace switcher (I'm using 2.22.2 on ubuntu 8.04) 2. Open two windows side by side in workspace one 3. Move one of the windows to workspace 2 by dragging it in the workspace switcher panel or by using the corresponding keyboard shortcuts. 4. Note the wrong display of the window size and position of the window in workspace two 5. click on workspace two 6. Notice how the size and position are updated according to the current layout. What is the expected output? 1. If the second workspace is empty I expect the workspace switcher to display the moved window 'maximized' 2. If there is already a application in workspace 2, I expect, that both the old and the new windows are displayed side by side inside the workspace switcher panel What do you see instead? 1. The application in workspace 2 is not displayed 'maximized'. instead the old position and size is shown. 2. similar to above. the old size and position is just transfered into the new workspace. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? I have this problem on three different machines all running an up-to-date Ubuntu 8.04. Xmonad is either 0.7 or 0.8, both show similar problems. For example, it's not my cup of tea to press Mod-1 to switch to the last window of the tag with some reflected layout. What's more I wanted not to switch to floating windows or to think them as the last windows at the tag. So the changes are intended to sort it all out.

Hello all, I've been playing around with window prompt, and totally digging it. I thought it was lacking the ability to bring a copy of a window to the current workspace, so I wrote a quick implementation. I've included a patch of Window.hs in case anyone is interested. -matt

IM layout configuration for Psi

Hello all, I'm trying to set up the IM layout for the Psi xmpp client. I found a working config for skype online, and tried tweaking it for psi, but no luck so far. Has anyone else done this? Is there a way to dump the window properties for a window, to give me a better idea how to configure? thanks -matt

How to handle modal dialog windows

Hi I use the following layout: myLayout = tiled ||| Mirror tiled ||| Full ||| HintedTile 1 0.1 0.5 TopLeft XMonad.Layout.HintedTile.Tall where -- default tiling algorithm partitions the screen into two panes tiled = XMonad.Tall nmaster delta ratio -- The default number of windows in the master pane nmaster = 1 -- Default proportion of screen occupied by master pane ratio = 1/2 -- Percent of screen to increment by when resizing panes delta = 3/100 Some applications like firefox, thunderbird make heavy use of modal dialogs, for example to set preferences. These are usually small windows that float over the application until you dismiss them. However, with the layouts I use, those windows get scaled to fill have of the screen, left to the application. That is annoying , in particular since the control buttons (OK Cancel ) do not appear , so I have to force quit that window. I really like those layouts above for everything (xterm windows, vims , etc ) but I would like to adjust xmonad in order to take into account the modal dialogs for the typical GUI Apps. Any ideas are welcomed Thanks for help Peter

Hi, this is the correct patch. It gets screefocus-follows-mouse going. The trick is to enable leaveNotify events for client windows (no enterNotify event for the root window is generated when you move the mouse from a window to the empty space). But these events are generated for the old window, so we must not feed that to focus (or we might create an infinite loop), so there is focusScreen which just makes the screen below the mouse current if it turns out to be a different one than the active one. Works with UpdatePointer without problems.
