What I do is the following: go to 'web', which is my primary browsing workspace where there *always* is at least one Firefox window, and shift the window somewhere else. This has several drawbacks however: - it doesn't happen automatically (a prompt similar to the ShellPrompt.hs where you can prefix the program with the workspace to launch on would be terrific! I've had the idea for a while, but I'm currently very busy. I'll see if I can look into implementing it.) - new windows that happen to open on, say 'test' (for example, I'm testing a webapp in FF and it pops up a dialog), go to 'web'. Suboptimal... Most of the time, the application will just appear to hang. - it doesn't solve your original first question, which would be nice if we could solve it in a generic manner. I am not really good at Haskell, nor am I very experienced with XMonad (well, besides using it since 0.3 :-) ), but I think those are open issues currently, not addressed by *any* WM I know (not any tiling one at least. Left the windowing world some year or two ago, but they had the same problem). I think one can solve at least some of them. I'll let you know if I find out about something. BTW: If you like topicalised workspaces, be sure to look into Actions.DynamicWorkspaces, which lets you create and delete named workspaces dynamically, like in wmii (but better... it's XMonad!) Windows staying put on their workspace

Hi gang, I was wondering if it's possible to do the following things: 1) I'm finding that windows are popping up on my current workspace when they were generated by a window in a different workspace. These are very distracting. I'd like them to stay over there. 2) Right now, if I launch a big application (say, amarok or openoffice) on a workspace and change workspaces the window will pop up on the second workspace I am at now. Instead, I'd like to launch the application on it's own workspace, then go to a different workspace to do some work then come back after it's launched. Cheers! Jevin

Keyboard and mouse dying

Hi, When using xmonad, sometimes my mouse and keyboard stop answering, to the point that I have to reboot the computer. Does anyone had the same experience? I first thought that it could be a hardware problem, but when I use gnome nothing wrong happens. Weird WindowBringer/Prompt.Window behavior

Coming back to WindowBringer after a long time, I notice it goes to the *workspace* of the window you select, not the window itself. Does anybody like this behavior? If so, I'll try to preserve it while adding a new action. Otherwise, I'll just fix it to do the right thing.

I've never done any XMonad.Prompt coding, so I figured I'd submit for review. Plus, the function doesn't look all that pretty, so I'm probably doing something stupid.
