scripting xmonad externally?

I've primarily been a ratpoison user for years, with a dalliance with wmii for a few months. I tried Xmonad over the weekend. Very nice work. The thing I'm most missing from ratpoison and wmii is an external api, which makes them extensible from external programs (and any language.) Executing "ratpoison -c <ratpoison-command>" issues the command to the running ratpoison instance. wmii has a Plan 9 interface, driven by reading to and writing from particular places in a virtual filesystem. Third-party wrappers of these facilitate scripting in various languages. Are there any plans to offer such an interface in Xmonad in the future (or am I being a dolt and it's already possible and I've just missed it)? Hi! I've just released xmobar-0.7, a text based status bar I wrote for the XMonad WM. I understand that. The reason that I think this is a good exception is that the Alt-Tab shortcut is rather extra anyway. it's the same thing as mod-j. So, to me it looks like the mod-Tab is just backwards-compatibility for a shortcut most WMs have. So, I think maintaining this compatibility even when the user changes the default mod is desirable. I don't think this particular binding would really conflict with much, alt-tab is quite standard. Hi all, I certainly don't want to start a bikeshed discussion, but I felt that the default tabs didn't have enough contrast for me to comfortably read them. This patch increases that contrast. I would ask that this not be applied unless it's approved by Andrea, who added these configuration options. But it seems to me that for the default we'd like to err on the side of greater legibility, and let folks with better eyes or better monitors customize their Config to look nicer. darcs patch: make delete work when window is in multiple workspaces.

This change makes delete work when a window is present in multiple workspaces. It also modifies filter to follow the same focus semantics as delete. This seems a good thing. We could debate this, if anyone cares, but filter is hardly used at all, and when it is, it makes sense for delete semantics to be followed.
