Hullo, so here's XMonadContrib.FindEmptyWorkspace. It does pretty much what one would expect: finds an empty workspace and views it or tags windows to it. See the patch for details Attached is also a patch to make DwmPromote compile against darcs version of XMonad. -- Miikka Koskinen, aka. arcatan

Hi all, Here's a little module to add a swapFocus function using the focus stack code. It includes a little smartwindows function that I think would be nice to have in Operations, perhaps as a replacement for windows. It'd be nice to have these functions that accept a pure function work ask for one that returns a Maybe result, so we don't need to refresh unless something has changed. Tiled layout with more columns?

I've got a widescreen display and I found out that three columns of windows fit comfortably. So I would be interested in a layout that is similar to the normal¹ tiled layout, except that it has three columns instead of two. The first window would go in the master area, then half of the remaining windows would go into the middle column, the other half of in the rightmost column. (The rightmost column may have one more window than the middle column, depending on the number of windows in the workspace.) The middle column and the right column would have the same width. Does something like this exist already? tia, Kai

Select any program which reads from stdin, such as 'cat' What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I would expect the process to nicely SIGTTIN and stay out of the way. Instead, X/Xmonad stops responding to mod-commands. I have to use C-M-BS and restart X. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? Latest darcs, i686-linux-gnu (Debian sid) Please provide any additional information below. This is especially problematic for me because 411topnm is the first program in the mod-p listing, so if typeahead is missed an attempt to launch any program can trigger this. Hi all, Here's an amend-recorded version of my focus stack patch, which fixes recent conflicts. I understand there's some debate (presumably on IRC?) as to what is the best way to deal with the focus issues, and figure that having working code to consider could come in handy in the discussion. Switch screens less often?

I find that xmonad switches screens too often for my taste. So I would like to try out new behavior. Has anyone implemented it already? If not, then I'd try to give it a go, but I don't know any Haskell... Specifically: * Currently, Mod-1 and friends may switch screens if that workspace is already visible on another screen. I would like to make them beep instead, and not change workspaces. * Currently, RotView switches screens when the next workspace in line is on another screen. I would like to make it skip such workspaces. Example: Say I am on screen 0, showing workspace 1. Screen 1 shows workspace 3. Then rotating to the right should show workspace 2, then workspace 4, skipping workspace 3. * I would like to retain the behavior of Mod-w, Mod-e, Mod-r switching screens. Kai
