This small patch addresses http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/xmonad/2013-February/013512.html. The new behaviour also affects users that have alwaysHighlight set to False (the default) in the following way: - "xterm -e emacs" autocompleted to e.g. ["emacs","emacs23","emacs-24.2",..] before (using the last word) - "xterm -e emacs" autocompletes to nothing now which I'm not sure is a problem. shellPrompt exec with args

Do I have to configure anything special to use shellPrompt with extra args? For example "xterm -e emacs -nw" won't start anything and I believe it's because shellPrompt wants just a path or name of something in $PATH.

Haskell question: avoiding code duplication

I've been working on a few customizations to xmonad but as I play with Haskell I keep seeing a pattern of duplication in my code that I don't know how to resolve. Here's an example: -- | Enables 'focusFollowsMouse' for tiled windows only. xmodmap -e "clear mod2" is killing my xmonad mod key

Hey all, The rollout to my employees are going well. The BETA group are very satisfied with the setup, and all minor niggles have been sorted out so far. Except for one thing: Due to a legacy Windows XP application that isn't playing very nice with VirtualBox, we need to disable the numlock key completely. What we need is simple: 1. Activate numlock upon login. 2. Disable the numlock key so numlock stays ON under all circumstances I was convinced that this was easily solved by adding some xmodmap magic to .xinitrc: xmodmap -e "clear mod2" and while that does indeed disable the key while retaining the ON setting from my SLiM login manager, it also wreaks havoc on my xmonad mod key, which no longer works. I've got my modMask set to mod4Mask. I've tried using the default modMask, but the problem is still there. I've also tried using numlockx (instead of SLiM) to set numlock = ON, but that changes nothing: Clearing the mod2 key still mess up my xmonad. I've tried remapping the numlock keycode to nothing or to some other key, with no success. I'm at my wits end. Thomas Løcke

Problem with smartBorders, multiple screens, and fullscreen windows

Hi, I have a problem with fullscreen windows on my multi-monitor setup. After reducing my xmonad.hs bit by bit, I finally tracked down the problem to smartBorders from XMonad.Layout.NoBorders. How to reproduce: 1. Add smartBorders to your layout(s). 1. Make a window fullscreen (e.g. mplayer, virtualbox, flash) on one screen, say screen 1. 2. Change to an arbitrary hidden workspace on another screen, e.g. on screen 2. What I get: The content of the fullscreen window (on screen 1 in the example above) isn't updated anymore. In mplayer, for example, the video simply "freezes" while the sound keeps going. I can fix it by restoring the window and make it fullscreen again. Expected results: Nothing should happen to the fullscreen window. More information: I'm using xmonad 0.10 and xmonad-contrib 0.10 on Arch Linux. I can reproduce this on two machines with different graphic cards, Nvidia and Intel, so I don't think the problem lies with the graphic driver, which was my first suspicion. If I remove borders from all screens except the one with the fullscreen window (by using noBorders), I can switch workspace without "freezing" the fullscreen window. I was surprised that I couldn't find anyone else with a similar issue (except maybe Issue 311<http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=311>) - if someone else can reproduce this, please let me know and I'll submit a bug report. Even better, if someone could help me fix or work around the problem without losing the functionality of smartBorders, I would be extremely happy. Thanks, Hans

xmonad on OSX Mountain Lion

I spend an evening trying to get xmonad under OSX Mountain Lion to work, but with little success... I followed this guides ( http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Xmonad/Using_xmonad_on_Apple_OSX#Modern_…, http://sourcematters.org/2012/06/27/xmonad-on-os-x-lion.html, https://gist.github.com/3923233) I end up with having X11 configured as not run in Full screen mode, other wise nothing happens and I just see my normal OSX desktop. When I then start XQuartz app, I can start various xterms, or xlogo, or xman by pressing Mod-return, and switch to the default xmonad layouts, but don't get the idea how to manage opening other applications such as my browser or, for example, the Notes app. Can you explain how this should work and how to accomplish this?

Set-up XMonad.Prompt.Shell with defaulXPConfig changing the searchPredicate to something else. e.g. \x y -> map toLower x `isPrefixOf` map toLower y 2. run your prompt, start typing anything to see that your searchPredicate is ignored. In the above example case IS ignored, so typing 'VI' should show 'vi' or 'vim' on the list, but they're not. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? latest darcs on up-to-date Archlinux x86_64 Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". recompile prints nothing and my cluttered xmonad.hs is attached but only line 166 is related (which is a keybind to X.A.SpawnOn shellPromptHere). Please provide any additional information below. X.P.Shell also completes filenames using bash's compgen, it should respect user's setting (~/.inputrc) telling it to ignore-case (set completion- ignore-case on). But that's another problem, I'm just complaining about command completion for now.
