The idea would be for an xmc extension with hooks into xosd, so you could write text and other fun things this way, with the first application being a view hook.

Sounds pretty nifty to me. I'd certainly use it.
I agree, I could see using it as a more attractive alternative to dynamicLogString. Of course that's subjective, but it would be fun to play with regardless.
One question : how wide spread is libosd? It's in Arch in the [extra]. Is it in Debian? -- Don
