Xmonad 0.12 requires : LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/X11/lib:$LIBRARY_PATH CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/X11/include" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/X11/lib" cabal install xmonad Xmonad-contrib 0.12 requires : LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/X11/lib:$LIBRARY_PATH CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/X11/include" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/X11/lib" cabal install xmonad-contrib --flags="-use_xft“ It could also be, that pkg-config is required. Available for example using Homebrew.
