Can somebody who has setup SCIM or another CJK input program please point me in the right direction?
Start it in your ~/.xinitrc or ~/.Xclients or ~/.Xsession or whatever X init files your system use. Be sure to setup some environment variables properly, such as GTK_IM_MODULE and XMODIFIERS. And also make sure that the locale is correct.
If you're on a Debian box (or maybe derivatives like Ubuntu as well), you may 'sudo aptitude install im-switch'; this will somewhat automate and manage the setup in a wm-agnostic way. (I use this for Japanese text through SCIM.)
