By default, youtube videos are 320x240, but they are also now rolling out 'high quality' videos at 480x360. One option might be to use Xnest to create a lower resolution X session, and run xmonad inside that session. That way everying will at least be bigger? Might help to use a xmonad inside Xnest that has a different mod key than the outside world. j.
