I've pushed a patch with which your IM layout works correctly: Sat Oct 31 11:49:45 EDT 2009 Adam Vogt * Implement hasProperty in terms of runQuery in U.WindowProperties This addresses issue 302 for unicode titles by actually using the complicated XMonad.ManageHook.title code, instead of reimplementing it with stringProperty (which doesn't appear to handle unicode). Please verify. Note: Other properties probably will not be unicode compatible, since they all seem to be implemented in terms of getStringProperty which only produces 8 bit characters from getWindowProperty8 with:

map (toEnum . fromIntegral)
