Re: Issue 322 in xmonad: Background shown when workspace switches

Comment #2 on issue 322 by sgsoftware: Background shown when workspace switches http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=322 I am not sure that this is strictly an X server problem since I've got similar behavior after upgrading xmonad from version 0.8.1 to version 0.9. Apparently something has changed in between and now xmonad draws background so that it is very noticeable (and quite annoying). In the previous version of xmonad switching between two full-screen windows was immediate and I could see no background. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Comment #3 on issue 322 by jaortega: Background shown when workspace switches http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=322 I'd like to second sgsoftware's opionion: i've also noticed a degradation of xmonad's behaviour on this regard (in my case, with the use of a background image). In addition, using the same X server and a different lightweight window manager (such as sawfish or stumpwm), i don't see any flicker or redrawing when switching workspaces: the windows popup instantly, as used to be the case in older versions of xmonad. If the flickering were caused by the X server, one would expect it to appear also in those other wm (which, AFAICT, are not compositing either). -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Updates: Status: Fixed Comment #4 on issue 322 by SpencerJanssen: Background shown when workspace switches http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=322 No matter what we do, there will be some flicker while changing workspaces. However, we can change what sort of flicker we see. I've flipped the order that we map and unmap windows and the flicker seems a bit less disruptive to my eye. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Comment #5 on issue 322 by sgsoftware: Background shown when workspace switches http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=322 Thank you very much. Comment #6 on issue 322 by jaortega: Background shown when workspace switches http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=322 That fixed the flickering here! Maybe there's a residual one, but i cannot see it: xmonad now behaves again like the other wms i mentioned. Thanks a lot, Spencer. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Comment #7 on issue 322 by jyoth...@gmail.com: Background shown when workspace switches http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=322 I'm using xmonad 0.9.2-2 from Arch repositories. The problem is still there for me.

Comment #8 on issue 322 by vogt.a...@gmail.com: Background shown when workspace switches http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=322 0.9.2 does not include the patch in comment 4, since 0.9.* only include changes to 0.9 to build with newer ghc.
