Oh, sorry to wait so long, but I finally got around to trying it, and am definitely shouting NO. Automatically showing the completions allows me to know exactly when to stop typing and hit tab.

so you want to see when there is only one completion left? In that case, wouldn’t it be nicer to have that shown in the entry bar, in a different color, behind the cursor? Hrm, perhaps. I'll also stop if there's, 3 or 4 entries, and it'd be faster to hit tab a few times.
