OT : urxvt and useful fonts

Hey all, I've moved to urxvt recently but noticed that the antialiased fonts seem a bit fuzzy. I'm assuming this is down to my font choice, so as a nice piece of off-topic posting, what fonts do people find work well in urxvt ? Cheers Dave

while I use URxvt*font: xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:style=Roman:pixelsize=16 URxvt*boldFont: xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:style=Bold:pixelsize=16 which don't seem blurry on my lcd laptop screen, i do sometimes use: *-terminus-medium-r-*-*-20-* lucidasanstypewriter-18 -- Don

I once experienced fuzzy urxvt fonts, but it turned out that my hinting settings were screwy. You might want to check that out (/etc/fonts and .fonts.conf on Arch Linux).

I use URxvt.font: xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono-8.5 If you're looking for something without AA, I like URxvt.font: -*-proggyclean-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* -- Alex

two notes: - DejaVu is often offered as a drop-in replacement for Vera, apparently there are improvements for some intl charsets - i strongly recommend Liberation from RedHat, released recently as a free (as in no use restrictions) alternative to some microsoft fonts https://www.redhat.com/promo/fonts/ http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/ports/x11-fonts/liberation-fonts-ttf/ i switched from dejavu and haven't looked back

I wasn't able to get nice look of scaled fonts in the sizes I use. So I'm still with old fixed fonts: -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1 -*-clean-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-iso10646-1 The second one is a bit too wide, but it works well for me in gvim.
