Issue 389 in xmonad: Some applications are unresponsive after workspace switch

Status: New Owner: ---- New issue 389 by mr.schyte: Some applications are unresponsive after workspace switch http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=389 What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. open an effected application (urxvt, gvim ...) 2. switch to another workspace 3. switch back What is the expected output? What do you see instead? After switching back the selected window doesn't register keyboard input, however after selecting another window (using alt-tab; mouse focus doesn't work) everything works fine until the next workspace switch. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.9.1, Linux synapse 2.6.32-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Mar 15 20:44:03 CET 2010 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". The problem occurs even when using the default configuration. Please provide any additional information below. Some applications work, while others doesn't (xterm works, urxvt doesn't). -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Comment #1 on issue 389 by hramr...@gmail.com: Some applications are unresponsive after workspace switch http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=389 I get this issue with urxvt (and gvncviewer I think) too. Changing focus with mouse works, though.

Comment #2 on issue 389 by hramr...@gmail.com: Some applications are unresponsive after workspace switch http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=389 Looks like workspace switch from a workspace with Firefox to a workspace with urxvt (rxvt-unicode) triggers this reliably. There is no issue switching between gedit and urxvt.

Comment #3 on issue 389 by meste...@gmail.com: Some applications are unresponsive after workspace switch http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=389 I got this behaviour too: switching from a workspace containing Firefox causes a CPU spike (Firefox consuming 101% CPU on a dual core); one can newer switch back to Firefox (workspace appears empty). Config : Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS. It happened on XMonad 0.8, and updating to XMonad 0.9 did not improve things. The bug appeared last week, when things had been working perfectly for months. I believe it was triggered by an aptitude full-upgrade (GTK update ?).

Comment #4 on issue 389 by hramr...@gmail.com: Some applications are unresponsive after workspace switch http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=389 I have no problem switching to and from Firefox. It takes some seconds for Firefox to re-render if window size changes but that's because Firefox is huge and slow, nothing to do with XMonad. The problem only happens when switching from Firefox to a terminal. The terminal does not receive keyboard input then.

Comment #5 on issue 389 by hramr...@gmail.com: Some applications are unresponsive after workspace switch http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=389 For me the problem is solved by killing scim as well as inability to type in gtk3 applications.

Comment #6 on issue 389 by johannes...@gmail.com: Some applications are unresponsive after workspace switch http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=389 I have this problems sometimes when switching to a workspace where evince is running. Evince then doesn't reliably register keyboard input. What happens is that I can't use "page up/page down" when in fit to window mode, and the text cursor isn't shown e.g. in the page-number text input box. gtk3 3.2.3-2 evince 3.2.1-3 xmonad 0.10-2 xmonad-contrib 0.10-1 Arch Linux
