Yeah, I would definitely support that, and probably many others would too. The setting of the pointer was a heated bike-shed issue when it first came up, hehe. It seemed completely obvious to the person submitting the patches that of course xmonad should do this, while it was equally obvious to others that this should be a desktop environment or user set item.
Your justification that a desktop environment base config like gnomeConfig shouldn't overwrite settings from the DE seems more reasonable and "self evident" than most all the points people made to get it included.
Thanks for confirming that this happens and being willing to file a bug. I've gotten pretty lazy about sending patches or working on documentation so likely won't take any further action but to express my support for the change, but hopefully someone will step up.
I raised bug 392[1] for it. I also attached a proposed fix.
If you use the gnome task bar you may want a `>> ewmhDesktopsStartupHook' in there too, to initialize the extended window manager hints items.
Yes, I noticed that one myself this morning, just before reading emails :-) /M [1] http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=392 -- Magnus Therning (OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) magnus@therning.org Jabber: magnus@therning.org http://therning.org/magnus identi.ca|twitter: magthe
