Looks like the calls to XGetWindowProperty in mcs/class/Managed.Windows.Forms/System.Windows.Forms/XplatUIX11.cs, in particular the WorkingArea getter, need some extra return value checking. What funkiness in XMonad causes this behaviour, I don't know.
