Oh absolutely, it's thoroughly broken *except* in the case that you do typeRep :: ... The problem is that nhc's type system throws away all the types of the expressions after it's finished. It's no doubt possible to get to the type system to give the required information, unfortunately the type system is such a huge mess that I see no obvious way to do it ...
