Dependency Analysis

Hello everyone, I've been making decent progress on getting dependency analysis working. I've just about gotten libHScabal.a to build using it :) But it's starting to look like it won't be possible to simply drop in my code to the current system. So rather than try to do that, I've decided to make a new module directory Distribution/Extended, and make a parallel system with a new API. I don't anticipate having to make any major changes to the .cabal file, only to Setup.hs, and I'm going to re-use as much of the existing API as possible. Pete

haddock.ghc, cabal, and web-based docs

I had a chat with waern & eivuokko today on #ghc about support web-based links for haddock.ghc, and I'd like to hear some voices. The chat is at http://conal.net/misc/2007-08-17-ghc.html. The --read-interface flag has been removed in haddock.ghc, in favor of grabbing the info out of package.conf. Unfortunately, that change breaks the only way I know of to get web-based inter-package links correct. We were thinking that there could just be a new, url-valued package.conf field, haddock-html-web, to augment the local-path-valued haddock-html field. In addition, haddock could have flags --net-links or --local-links, to determine whether to use haddock-html or haddock-html-web. Then we'd want to have support from cabal, to pass the new field into the .installed-pkg-config. BTW, I see "haddock-html" in my .installed-pkg-config, but "haddockHtmls" in package.conf. Is there some kind of translation magic to perform? Comments? - Conal

bootstrapping

As a newbie to the cabal-devel list, I don't know whether this question has already been thought about much, and perhaps even has a really good answer. I notice that the Cabal darcs repo now has a Cabal.cabal file that uses configurations. Presumably this is self-bootstrapping. But is it still possible to upgrade an older version of Cabal (e.g. supplied with ghc-6.2) to the latest version, using only the older version of Cabal itself? Regards, Malcolm
