Packages should specify an upper bound on the base version. Eg: {{{ build-depends: base >= 3 && < 4 }}} or equivalently: {{{ build-depends: base == 3.* }}} Cabal should check for this and suggest a sensible upper version on the base package, given that we know that base follows the package version policy. Note this is a special case for base but in general we should do this for all packages that opt-in to the versioning policy (see #343). Doing it for all such packages is a medium term goal. I was unable to then use the package afterwards. It failed at link-time with: {{{ Linking Main ... ld: in /... blah .../lib/dist/build/lib-0.1.a, archive has no table of contents collect2: ld returned 1 exit status }}} After talking to Beelsebob and dcoutts on #haskell, I used '''ranlib''' on lib-0.1.a, and it worked. On Windows, ghc --make with 6.8.1 produces a foo.exe and a foo.exe.manifest. Cabal deletes the former, but not the latter. Hello, I see from the archives that this hook is much unloved. How is one supposed to use it? The arguments to the function are underspecified. What is the Bool? I want access to the command-line flags, or at least verbosity settings. How do I do that? I envisage testing like so (approx): Setup test file Setup test dir Setup test --verbose Has anyone used it in anger? cheers peter
