Wanted: cabal-install 1.24.0.0 binary for OS X

Hi *, I've uploaded cabal-install 1.24.0.0 binaries for Linux and Windows (both i386 and x86-64) to https://www.haskell.org/cabal/download.html. I'd also like to upload an OS X binary, but I don't have access to an OS X machine currently. Can someone please build an OS X binary for cabal-install 1.24.0.0 and e-mail it to me? Thanks in advance.

Cabal build vs cabal new-build output differences?

Hello all! I upgraded my cabal-install from a dev snapshot of 1.24 to the release (currently using ghc 8.0 rc4) One change I'm trying to track down is that my standard editor tooling (sublime Haskell ) now hangs when there's non empty output in stderr (, which it would typically parse and present error highlighting with ), and curiously, when I patched sublime Haskell to use new-build the sublime Haskell tooling worked like a charm. I'm hard pressed to understand why there's a difference, and I don't seen any commits on the cabal packages that should impact this (though to be fair my earlier rc build of cabal 1.24 was using ghc 7.10.3, but that doesn't explain why new-build seems to work fine for me ) I've also reported a bug with sublime Haskell, but any upstream wisdom or ideas would be appreciated

why is not possible to update cabal to 1.22 ? (Ubuntu 14.04)

Hello I have tried to update, upgrade, and finally uninstall and reinstall again haskell platform in order to get the latest version for cabal since the current version 1.16 (running under Ubuntu 14.04 ) always triggers the following error message not matter what package I try to install: ghc: ghc no longer supports single-file style package databases (dist/package.conf.inplace) use 'ghc-pkg init' to create the database with the correct format. Failed to install XXX ... ExitFailure 1 I have also tried cabal install cabal-install-1.22.0.0 --global --force-reinstalls but again, it fails. Thanks, JC

Cabal 1.24 status update

Hi *, A short update on the status of the 1.24 release. Due to GHC 8 final having been repeatedly postponed we were able to get the nix-local-build work and a bunch of other patches initially targeted for 1.24.1.0 merged before the first release off the 1.24 branch. However, a number of solver issues affecting setup/component dependencies were discovered in the meantime. They are not considered release-critical, but are being actively looked into, and we're hoping to get them fixed before the first 1.24 release. This work is being done on the 'solver' branch in the repo [1]. So right now I'm planning to cut the 1.24 release either soon after GHC 8 RC4 is out, or once those solver patches are merged, whichever comes first. Travis PR build notifications on Slack and IRC

Hello all, I'm happy to announce that you can get IRC and Slack notifications for Travis builds on https://github.com/haskell/cabal . This should make it more convenient to submit pull requests as you can get pinged when the build is finished. IRC notifications are only for branches on the main haskell/cabal repository (not PRs; this is a limitation of Travis's IRC integration) and can be subscribed to by joining ##haskell-cabal on freenode.net I would not have setup Slack notifications, except between Slack and HipChat this is the only way to get Travis to send per-PR messages at the moment. Slack notifications are on the haskell-cabal Slack team, and also include build notifications for PRs. The free tier requires explicit signups so I've deployed a small app https://haskell-cabal.herokuapp.com/ to automatically issue invites; just type in your email and it will give you an invite to the Slack channel. (Courtesy of https://github.com/outsideris/slack-invite-automation) The Travis bot posts to #travis. I personally am connected to Slack over the IRC bridge; Google for setup instructions. If you would like to be added as an admin for the Slack instance please let me know and I'll add you. Running the Cabal tests

Hi all, I hacked together what I thought was a neat little feature (a 3 line diff) and thought I'd add a test. Thats when I figured out I couldn't even run the tests. Reading `Cabal/tests/Readme.md` I see I need to set the environment var: > * `CABAL_PACKAGETESTS_GHC` is the path to the GHC you compiled Cabal with > * `CABAL_PACKAGETESTS_GHC_PKG` is the path to the ghc-pkg associated with this GHC > * `CABAL_PACKAGETESTS_HADDOCK` is the path to the haddock associated with this GHC > * `CABAL_PACKAGETESTS_GHC_VERSION` is the version of your GHC > * `CABAL_PACKAGETESTS_DB_STACK` is a PATH-style list of package database paths, The first four are obvious and easy, but I have no idea how to set the last one. Cabal 1.24 and 1.26 status update

Hi *, A short update on the current status of the 1.24 branch and plans for the future. Given that the GHC 8 final release is fast approaching, I've decided to create the 1.24 branch before the GHC 8 RC3 has been released. This means that some of the Cabal features initially planned for 1.24 (see [1]) will unfortunately have to be postponed until 1.26. These features are: https://github.com/haskell/cabal/pull/2540 - platform libraries https://github.com/haskell/cabal/pull/2522 - globstar globbing However, we've decided to do another (small) feature release of cabal-install off the 1.24 branch a month or two after the release of cabal-install 1.24.0.0. Therefore the following patches, which do not touch Cabal library code, will make it into the 1.24.1.0 release of cabal-install: https://github.com/haskell/cabal/pull/2916 - space leak in solver https://github.com/haskell/cabal/pull/2914 - space leak in solver https://github.com/haskell/cabal/pull/2774 - gen-bounds command https://github.com/haskell/cabal/pull/2882 - status command Also, cabal-install 1.24.1.0 will include an alpha version of Duncan's nix-local-build work, which is currently in the process of being merged. I've also uploaded release candidates of Cabal and cabal-install 1.24 to Hackage: http://hackage.haskell.org/package/Cabal-1.24.0.0/candidate/Cabal-1.24.0.0.… http://hackage.haskell.org/package/cabal-install-1.24.0.0/candidate/cabal-i… Unless major bugs will be discovered in these release candidates, this is what will become the final 1.24 release. Please test and report any problems you find!

Yeah. I'm a bit mystified about this issue myself. I've created a GitHub issue: https://github.com/haskell/hackage-server/issues/478 inspired by this and the other recent threads.
