#582: cabal-install not installing packages listed as upgradable ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ Reporter: Raevel | Owner: Type: defect | Status: closed Priority: normal | Milestone: cabal-install-0.10 Component: cabal-install tool | Version: Severity: normal | Resolution: fixed Keywords: | Difficulty: unknown Ghcversion: | Platform: ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ Changes (by duncan): * status: new => closed * resolution: => fixed * milestone: => cabal-install-0.10 Comment: The `cabal upgrade` command has been removed. The problem was that upgrade did not take into account the package version preferences. The new `cabal install world [--dry-run]` does this aspect right. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/582#comment:1> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

Re: [Hackage] #507: Improve `cabal info` output for the local package (was: `cabal info` for the local package)

#507: Improve `cabal info` output for the local package ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ Reporter: guest | Owner: Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: cabal-install tool | Version: 1.6.0.1 Severity: minor | Keywords: Difficulty: normal | Ghcversion: Platform: | ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ Comment(by duncan): The `cabal info` command will now work for the local package. Just run `cabal info ./` or `cabal info blah.cabal` using the the local .cabal filename. Note that it does not give the description of the package flags, just their name. {{{ Sun Feb 13 19:41:50 GMT 2011 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)community.haskell.org> * Add a new module for handling user targets This will allow us to increase the range of targets that cabal commands can support. The new ones are local directory targets, local cabal files, local tarballs and remote tarballs by URL. Also a better way of doing the special "world" target. Sun Feb 13 19:46:27 GMT 2011 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)community.haskell.org> * Partial rewrite of cabal list and info commands The new user target system requires a change in how cabal info works. Instead of just giving package names and looking them up in the available package index, we can now specify names with versions or version constraints which means we want the info to be about that version in particular. We now list many installed and available versions and mark which ones are preferred or not. Also fix a bug for packages that are only installed, not available. }}} -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/507#comment:3> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

I bet. http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/696 Is /tmp noexec by default on current redhat/centos releases? If so we'll want to up the priority of these tickets. If /tmp is noexec, do you know what is the recommend solution on these platforms. For compiling packages we need to be able to compile and execute programs. Is there some other location other than /tmp that we should use? I wonder if there's a quick and reliable method for testing for noexec, rather than waiting until we get to the stage where we've unpacked the package, compiled Setup and are trying to run it. Sun Feb 13 15:41:15 PST 2011 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)community.haskell.org> * Adjust the amount of output for the -v verbosity level in a few places For several commands, including install the -v verbosity level had far too much useless internall stuff in it. Reduced the amount of output from configuring the compiler, getting installed package and the dependency planner. The extra detail is still available via -v3.
