patch applied (cabal): Undo incorrect fixes for "unused-do-bind" warnings.

Mon Jul 27 09:09:07 PDT 2009 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Undo incorrect fixes for "unused-do-bind" warnings. We capture (and discard) the program output because we do not want it printed to the console. darcs patch: Add a unuque identifier for installed packages
by Simon Marlow 29 Jul '09

29 Jul '09

This is a new version of the installedPackageId patch for review. The only change since last time is that instead of making up a random string for the installedPackageId, we now call ghc --abi-hash M1 M2 ... to get a string representing a hash of the package ABI, where M1, M2 etc. are the exposed modules of the package. GHC's --abi-hash flag has not been pushed yet; I'm waiting to get the go-ahead on this patch and then I can push it all together. The upshot is that if you compile and install the same package twice, without changing anything, there's a reasonable chance you'll get the same InstalledPackageId the second time (I say reasonable chance, because GHC's ABI hashes are not completely stable). I can validate GHC with this patch (and related GHC changes), but I haven't tested much beyond that. Cheers, Simon

[Hackage] #568: option -b has no effect

#568: option -b has no effect ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: guest | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: Cabal library | Version: 1.6.0.1 Severity: normal | Keywords: Difficulty: unknown | Ghcversion: Platform: | ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- once upon a time cabal had a very useful option the -b option, which you could use to change the directory in which the build was performed, a useful capability when you are in the process of transitioning from one version of ghc to another as it enables you to (without interference) maintain multiple builds from the one source directory, for example .... {{{ runghc setup configure -b.\dist\build\ghc\6.8.2 .... runghc setup build ... runghc setup configure -b.\dist\build\ghc\6.10.4 ... runghc setup build ... runghc setup configure -b.\dist\build\hugs ... }}} the effect of the above should be to build in the subdirectory nominated relative to the current root, what in fact happens is cabal will build in the same old directory it always does: dist\build\.... this option seems to have disappeared from cabal some time ago, it would (IMHO) be very usefule to have it re-introduced. In actual fact, the option is still recognised, it just dosn't work anymore, i.e. it has no effect! -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/568> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

[Hackage] #199: when installing a new version of GHC, there should be a way to upgrade my packages

#199: when installing a new version of GHC, there should be a way to upgrade my packages ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ Reporter: guest | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: cabal-install tool | Version: 1.2.3.0 Severity: normal | Keywords: Difficulty: normal | Ghcversion: 6.8.2 Platform: Linux | ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ If I have version 6.6 of GHC installed, with packages foo, bar, and bang, and I install ghc 6.8, I'd like a way to automatically install foo, bar, and bang. This could be part of GHC's installation script possibly, or maybe a feature of cabal install. cabal can check the installed packages for the previous version of GHC and "cabal install" them. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/199> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects
