Unfortunately it cannot be less smart or it'd try rebuilding haskell98 against base 3. > So why is the version of network not bumped, yet? The maintainer is > libraries(a)haskell.org. Would it interfere with ghc-6.8? Done, and it works with (at least) ghc-6.6.1, 6.8.2 and 6.10.0.recent. Duncan

[Hackage] #388: Add a warning for unknown modules that were compiled

#388: Add a warning for unknown modules that were compiled ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: jcpetruzza | Owner: Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: Cabal library | Version: Severity: normal | Keywords: Difficulty: normal | Ghcversion: 6.8.3 Platform: | ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Let's say you are working on a new version of a library; you add a new internal (i.e. non-exposed) module but you forget to update the package description. You locally test your changes, everything works fine so you install it. Now, since the new module is not listed in {{{other-modules}}} it will not be included in the final library. Therefore, when you try to use it you get rather cryptic linker errors. It can take a while until you realize where the problem is coming from. The proposal is to look, during build, for compiled modules under the {{{dist}}} directory that are not included in the final library and warn the user about their presence. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/388> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

[Hackage] #384: suggest use of --user if configure fails with missing deps that are in the user db
by Hackage 29 Oct '08

#384: suggest use of --user if configure fails with missing deps that are in the user db ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: duncan | Owner: Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: Cabal library | Version: HEAD Severity: normal | Keywords: Difficulty: normal | Ghcversion: 6.8.3 Platform: | ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- The fact that `runghc Setup configure` and `cabal configure` are different confuses people. The former does a `--global` install by default while the latter does `--user` installs by default. This crops up when people install something via `cabal-install` and then configure another package using `runghc Setup` and are confused when the dependency they just installed is apparently missing. One solution would be that when configure finds that there are missing dependencies, it could check them in the per-user package database and if they are found to suggest that the user might have intended to do a per- user install. Mentioning the constraint that global packages can only depend on other global packages probably would not go amiss either. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/384> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

cabal upgrade: dependencies conflict
by Henk-Jan van Tuyl 23 Oct '08

23 Oct '08

L.S., Cabal-install refused to upgrade because of a dependencies conflict: >cabal upgrade Warning: Error parsing config file C:\Documents and Settings\Henk-Jan\Application Data\cabal\config: On line 1: GHC Warning: Using default configuration. Resolving dependencies... cabal: dependencies conflict: Win32-2.1.1.1 requires bytestring ==0.9.0.1.1 however bytestring-0.9.0.1.1 was excluded because bytestring-0.9.1.3 was selected instead bytestring-0.9.0.1.1 was excluded because of the top level dependency bytestring >0.9.1.2 After the command: >cabal upgrade bytestring the "cabal upgrade" command had no "dependencies conflict" problem any more. This looks like a bug to me. -- Regards, Henk-Jan van Tuyl -- http://functor.bamikanarie.com http://Van.Tuyl.eu/ --
