[Hackage] #352: cabal-install has selective problems with update under Win32

#352: cabal-install has selective problems with update under Win32 ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: guest | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: Cabal library | Version: 1.4.0.1 Severity: normal | Keywords: cabal update HTTP 403 Difficulty: normal | Ghcversion: 6.8.3 Platform: Windows | ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- For a few weeks I have had a problem where 'cabal update' fails every time, with an HTTP 403 error: {{{ wbaety@SDRSPPC09 /c/cabal-install-0.5.2 $ cabal update -v3 Downloading package list from server 'http://hackage.haskell.org/packages/archive' Sending: GET http://hackage.haskell.org/packages/archive/00-index.tar.gz HTTP/1.1 User-Agent: cabal-install/0.5.1 Creating new connection to hackage.haskell.org Received: HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden Content-Type: text/html cabal.exe: Failed to download index 'ErrorMisc "Invalid HTTP code: (4,0,3)"' }}} Oddly, both wget and curl will retrieve the file just fine. I have attached a copy of both the curl and the cabal output. -- Reported by BMeph on 16 September 2008 @ 14:03 (-7:00) -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/352> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

Paths_*.hs and sdist
by Jean-Philippe Bernardy 16 Sep '08

From haskell cafe: (I tried to reply through gmane but it might have not worked) > http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/libraries/2008-July/010078.html > I can't think of any other workaround for 1.2 so I think you'll have to > require Cabal-1.4 for your package. With the above "workaround" and Cabal 1.4 I get: dhcp-192-157:yi-stable bernardy$ cabal sdist Building source dist for yi-0.4.6.2... Preprocessing library yi-0.4.6.2... cabal: can't find source for Paths_yi in ., dist/src/yi-0.4.6.2/dist/build/autogen What's the recommended solution? Thanks, -- JP

patch applied (cabal): In "Setup makefile", don't build the vanilla way if it's disabled
by Ian Lynagh 14 Sep '08

Sat Sep 13 07:31:32 PDT 2008 Ian Lynagh <igloo(a)earth.li> * In "Setup makefile", don't build the vanilla way if it's disabled This needs a bit of a kludge, as the vanilla way doesn't really exist as far as the build system is concerned. It's just the absence of way.
